The problem with these sorts of bshit generic names is that people will call it whatever they like and in most cases take the easy option out. It'll be known as '"that place on William st"

no aux, despite tha name and wotever other issues people have with this building. i'm in tha opinion that this will bring a much needed contemporary spark into a very old and tired northbridge...

tha black abstract overhang will be interesting, likewise with tha gold curtain... i'm yet to see what this finish actually consists of...

I hated the old name it was too soon after Ledgers death to name it after him more of a political stunt.

I mean the it was too early in his career to judge him as a great actor and it was not as if the name came due to a generous donation or contribution to the arts in WA. I think naming the main theatre inside after him is more appropriate.
True generic names are boring but the reason given to name it after Heath Ledger are pretty thin ( will give it international stature ??? wtf )

What would give it stature on international scale is the architecture which looks nice but is not exceptional, you need a Sydney opera house or something like that to become well know not a name.
The truth is people want the venue so wait for the best design is a bit selfish (may never come anyway). I actually don't mind this is certainly more modern in style than the rest of the arts precinct.

yeah i'd have to agree with direwolf. i think the move to name the whole complex after him was a popularist stunt to sex up a government project. having said that i'm all for naming one of the theatres after him and i have no doubt it will become colloquailly known as the heath ledger theatre. i am very happy with the design. has a lot of class about it. but as direwolf said, an architectural masterpiece would be the way to bring international attention to the building, not a name. perth will be lucky if it can get cutting edge world class theatre in the building more than a few times a year, if that. it was never going to be at the pinnacle of the international theatre world anyway.
