Barcelona ones seem to be about 10 leds high and with a similar grouped pixel display system, different colour and slighly less bright but much closer to the ones on the M5000.

Do you really think that they will not meet the requirements that they are meant to?

Do you honestly think a company like Bombardier would sell equipement that does not meet the required specifications?

Sure, there may be better models, but do we need to spend money on them when money is so tight.

I really do think you have made a mountain out of nothing here.

Look at the Barcelona blinds - tiny dark things that seem to do the job from my experience of using their trams.

watch - forgotten what your original point was?

Think I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick.

You are not saying that they are anything other than perfectly adequate for the task involved are you?

As long as they work and they don't have to display the nasty boards anymore, then who cares?!!!

I am very certain that they do! I think the problem is actually the 'refresh' rate of the displays. It's very similar to what some of you may have experienced when taking a photo of a TV. When looking at a 50Hz TV, the human eye cannot distinguish between lots of slightly changing pictures, and views it as a continuous (changing or not) picture. A photo however captures just one instant in time, and will often show a black(s) line across the picture where it is being refreshed.

These LED displays will have similar properties. The human eye will not pick up on this effect.

Much better! Still a bit worried about how they will look from a distance but they are sharper in those pictures and dont have the missing pixel lines.

Out and about and still not removed the drivers seat wrapping?

The Eccles Line...
I believe currently there is about 1 train an hour in each direction from Eccles in to Manchester and to Liverpool. This is expected to increase when they line is electrified. Due to quicker speeds and stops.
I was reading the current issue of Rail the other day and there was an article about allowing more open access train operating companies that will operate across the pennines. These companies looked at potential stops, one would be an Eccles Parkway station.
A few questions...
Has anyone ever heard anything about this?
Would it connect with Ladywell Tram Stop?
Can a tram in Eccles compete with a 8 minute regular service into Manchester?
Does anyone feel it is possible to speed up the line through the Quays in anyway. I was thinging perhaps elevation like Canary Wharf?

I see 3001 has what looks like polystyrene blocks attached at strategic points - presumbly to ensure that if the tram may hit something the blocks will take the impact?

Most people who travel along the Eccles line do not travel from Eccles to Piccadilly, as such yes, they can both co-exist very happily.

When I worked with another company someone I knew re-programmed the LED display in a couple of lifts just before he left the company.

The management were not amused.
