Elizabeth tower up to 30 stories now(?), already making her mark on the Manchester skyline. Only another 22 stories to go.

There’s going to be plenty of development in Trafford Cty and around the Trafford Centre over the coming years.

New football centre in TraffordCity set to become a reality

14 February 2020

Peel L&P and Fives Soccer Centre have today been given the green light by Trafford Council to develop a new football centre in TraffordCity which will provide the community with eight, FA approved all-weather football pitches and changing rooms on a three-acre site adjacent to the Beyond Ski Centre.

The current football provision in the Soccerdome will continue until the new £2 million football facility is completed by Peel L&P in September 2020.

Plans Approved For New And Bespoke EventCity

Plans submitted by EventCity to build a brand new, state-of-the-art venue in TraffordCity have today been approved. The application, submitted in September 2019, proposed the creation of a bespoke events venue which would allow the business to be even more flexible when hosting conferences, exhibitions, gala dinners and meetings.

The new, purpose-built facility will see a multi-million-pound investment by its owners, Peel L&P. At 23,700 sq. m, the enhanced offering will cater for a range of events and will be more malleable, allowing for areas to be divided off with acoustic walls, so multiple events can take place at any one time. The venue will include updated features, such as a central foyer with breakout space and a reconfigured entrance.

Securing the former Soccerdome site, the new address will bring the venue even closer to existing leisure destinations and hotels within TraffordCity, boasting ample free parking alongside excellent road and public transport access. The Metrolink, due to open in TraffordCity Spring 2020, will be just a seven-minute walk from the new EventCity location

So for my tenth shot it’s the Manchester skyline taken from Alicia’s balcony in Castlefield on Saturday night.

A top night involving my favourite things, good company, music, wine, laughter and singing. Can’t wait for next time.

.....and here's one I made earlier from the Castlefield view. Again perspective of the DSQ tallest South Tower away from Chester Road makes an astonishing difference to the perceived height from Castlefield.

Kier starts on £21m Jodrell Bank project

Quote:
The contractor has broken ground on the observatory’s First Light Pavilion with completion of the project, commissioned by the University of Manchester, expected in 2021.

The Hassell-designed scheme, for which approval was granted in December 2017, will see the construction of an 8,000 sq ft, grass-covered dome housing a visitors’ centre, exhibition space and a 150-seat auditorium. At its highest point the single-storey dome will reach seven metres.

It is hoped that the addition of the pavilion will provide a boost to visitor numbers which currently stand at 150,000 per year.

Growing up in the north of the UK, I never thought I would see the day were Manchester has a skyline worth discussing. I guess UK cities have been neglected for so long that what we are seeing in Manchester is a city catching up.

Thank f*** for Renaker. (apologies for swearing) http://www.renakerbuild.com/#going-strong

Elizabeth, Crown and 2-4 Chester Road all under construction.

Deansgate Square is just out of picture to the left.

The Blade and the Circle, both temporary names, both 50+ stories, will be just to the left of Elizabeth.

All Renaker.

I have for the last couple of years been doing a regular update of work on the Transformation Programme at Manchester airport. It has been suggested that I should include my posts in this thread.

Currently I receive weekly updates from the MANTP team which I hope you will find informative - some posts may appear repetitive due to the fact that they cover a rolling 4-week programme and there 3 of 4 items will be the same and only the bottom one will have changed.

Anyway, here is last week's update.

MANTP Update #128 has now been made available to me. My thanks to the MANTP Team to whom full credit is given. All photographs are copyright to MAG.
