It was put up for sale in 2015 and had 3 bidders on the site but JPM pulled the sale as they thought they might still want it... 4 years later... nought. Shame as its a key site right on the river just rotting away. They could've grassed over the site and at least made a public benefit of it.

JPM may have done that in their home town of New York, where they would have gained political and social capital out of it, but not London.

Their boss, Jamie Dimon, is pretty ambivalent about London in general.

I cannot believe that Riverside South Site (JPM) was mothballed nine years ago. Where does the time go.

I'm really quite glad Riverside South was never built. It was totally bland and a waste of such a prominent location. Not sure what will happen there long term as the ground work is already in place so whoever builds there will want to utilise the footprint. Lets hope for something tall and eye catching!

It would be better to have a world class structure there, like the Opera in Sydney, because CW can't go above 235m, so if they build anything it would just contribute to the flatness of the skyline...

I think a midrise to act as a foil to the higher buildings beyond would work well and give it more distance from the river. There should be no rivalry to the Landmark Pinnacle however. But it would be futile and a waste of considerable expense and effort having completed foundations for something much higher to go for a midrise. I never liked the Rogers project that much although a one-tower proposal might work better (such as a shorter version of his 3 World Trade for example). I wonder if anything will ever be done here - perhaps a subterranean museum?

I think many of us would love to see some kind cultural development wrapped within a distinct piece of architecture rather than another corporate tower. Perhaps the best we can hope for is something like that in the northern part of the site with a slimmer tower in the southern half.

Well how about a cultural development within a corporate tower of distinctive architecture.

Hmmm, perhaps, but towers constrain what can be built due to cost and engineering needs. A separate low rise building would have a wider scope for architectural innovation imo. Also, I don't really like skyscapers built right up to water - most of the famous HK skyline is actually set back a good 100m or so, while in lower Manhattan you have Battery park and the ferry terminal (Chicago also has a park on a good chunk of its central waterfront)

Something like the Opera House could work well, or something eye-catching as a cultural amenity. Maybe a lotus shaped Concert Hall right on the river? Something round or different in shape to add something to the square towers of CW.

Although a cultural element would be good here it'll never happen. JPM paid around £240 for the site and it was nearly sold for £350m.

It has had expensive ground works for large towers so it's a no brainer to say when new plans are worked up it'll be a collection of towers although hopefully next time it will be a mix of uses rather than purely office.

I'd like to remind you of the Museum of London Docklands, that fronts onto West India Quay. I'm also aware that art-themed walk too.

A standalone low rise cultural centre will never happen, it's true, but this is a very large site. The original proposals had two towers and a fairly chunky low rise bit between the two. Financially it should work having a tower or even two and something else on the site.

Yeah i have already been in there in the converted warehouses. I mean't architecture wise rather than attraction, but the Docklands Museum is itself a great place to learn about London as once one of the world's largest ports.
