yes great shots. Shows that things can be built in RAK. Not sure about the Ice thing - looks a bit lame.

Yes, great progress here and it shows what can be done. Can't wait for the day when Rakeen will build LHB as well!!

Ice Land

Whether this Ice Land is good or not it is an incentive to the area.

Yeah; - agreed Eddy, - any facility or attraction RAK can build can only be good for investors if it brings visitors in.

Also, the Bab Al Bahr project on Al Marjan Island, a sister development of Al Hamra Village, by Rakeen Properties, is also progressing on schedule. The first and second phases of the project are complete, while the third and fourth phases are nearing completion.

Hi - I am really pleased this is on schedule. I have seen it for myself

BUT - I have asked this question on another thread and some people think I am paranoid!!

What about the rest of the island? What are the plans for commercial, retail and leisure facilities ? I have not been told by anyone what these are!!

This development might get complete but there is NOTHING for anyone to do if they stay there.

I think everybody is concerned about what else is going on the island. at the moment i can count the ongoing projects on the island on one hand and there is no news of anything else

my personal concern

I don't want to look yet beyond Bab as I don't see anything else much going on that island. My biggest concern is that....... althought Bab is under construction the Hotel and Office/Mall will not be built for a long time. Rakeen will say we complied and delivered but what about the facilities which makes this project so unique? We might have for long time a open gap in the middle of the project or we will be disturbed by the construction for years, if it ever takes place.

Yes, fast, cheap and good for at least five years! If you have ever seen the Shorelines apartments on the Palm, its like a plaster painting combination, you cannot believe it was done that way. It looks so poor!

The sad thing....these buildings needs lost of maintenance......who will pay for this......WE.

There is probable nothing worse than constructing a building during a financial crisis.

It looked much the same this weekend. Aside from the buildings (did they copy the designs for the Sheraton Doha?) there is nothing there. Not really sure what more this will add to the other copmpleted and empty properties in the area.

Let's face it, RAK is on the Road to Nowhere (well, at the end of Emirates Road, so the next best thing) and its attraction is its isolation and beautiful coastline. So to build a 15,000 person/day theme park and several apartment blocks in several areas is really destroying the thing that makes it an attractive destination. Property prices here have fallen much further than in the bigger emirates, but arguably now they are good value for a second home for weekends.

June 24, 2010 update

Heh a bit more positive!. In a few months I will be enjoying my apartment with beautifull seaview and a cold beer on my terras. You have to look beyond the construction work and enjoy that solitair island feeling.

Here some new pictures, taken June 24, 2010.
