Playboy Club to open in India by year end

Though Playboy magazine has yet to greet the magazine stands in India, the first Playboy Club is all set to open in Goa this year end, with more Playboy-branded locations expected to follow.
“The first upscale club with 22,000 square feet of space will open by mid-December on North Goa's Candolim beach, making it the first beach location for Playboy globa
lly,” said Sanjay Gupta, CEO of PB Lifestyle, the Mumbai-based India brand licensee of Playboy Enterprises.

PB Lifestyle - co-owned by media and real estate entrepreneurs Parag Sanghvi and Jeetendra Jain - has earmarked an investment of $38 million (Rupees 2 billion) over the next five years to launch the Playboy brand across multiple "formats."

The company has plans to open more than 120 Playboy-branded locations, covering a mix of clubs, hotels, fashion cafes and retail outlets, over the next 10 years. Playboy merchandise will also be a focus area in India given that products branded with the iconic bunny rabbit logo are already sold in over 25,000 stores in 180 countries.

Anticipating potential concerns and criticism, the promoters are clear that “there will absolutely be no nudity" at the Playboy Club. "The bunnies will be suited to Indian sensibilities and moral values,” said Gupta. “It will be the lifestyle and glamour quotient that will attract members and walk-ins.”

What's the problem with Portuguese ethos sixsigma? Do you want Goa to take a "full Bali aproach" and throw it's unique culture and relaxed way of being for the sake of mass tourism, spring breaks and buffet breakfasts? Well I guess that would ultimately make Goa as uninsteresting as most of the 2000 other resort destinations around the world.

If you want to criticize europeanism in modern India you better start with your own anglophone influences. It's baffling to hear from Indians that Goa is strangely "kinda portuguese" when oblivious the regions they come from are also "kinda british".

I guess this kind of attitudes is what makes my Goese expat friends detached from their fellow Indians. I'm glad there's still difference in Goa, and portuguese ethos are more calm, contemplative, and respectful of traditions and quality of food and life than greedy capitalist super-development mentality.

In the end, preserving that difference will make India richer, trust me.

I visited Goa after 7 years last year - and Vasco, Madgaon and Panjim barely seemed any different. A lot more immigrants - but I was hoping a kerela-like transformation would be underway. I was sorely disappointed - I just can't fathom the reason why Goa isn't taking off in a grand way??

I know for a fact that the past three governments have been impotent!! But the private sector too hasn't taken much interest either....wierd!

People from Goa spend weekend in Belgaum

Quote:
TNN | Dec 6, 2012, 08.53 PM IST

BELGAUM: Most of the people from Goa spend their weekend in Belgaum; they come here for shopping and other recreation purpose, which is not to be seen more in Goa.

Some section of the people from Belgaum, especially college students during their weekend go to Goa to enjoy their time in beaches and churches but the Goa people in turn come to Belgaum during their weekend for shopping purpose and other entertaining purpose. On Saturday and Sunday, they will be here to purchase vegetables, meat, clothes and other required essential commodities. They say that in Goa, the shopping complex and branded shops are very less and the vegetables, food grains and meat are much costlier than Belgaum. Here in Belgaum they say that the vegetables, food grains, groceries, meat and clothes are comparatively cheaper than in Goa.

Some of the people come to Belgaum to view movies in Multiplexes. In Goa there are hardly few Multiplexes, so the students and working fraternity come here to spend their weekends. "In Goa, shopping is bit costly, so during our weekend we come to Belgaum along with our family members, the weather is also good in this place" so we have gala time here and will go back on Sunday afternoon" added Michael who had come for the shopping along with his family members. The shopping malls and other commercial establishments in Belgaum do good business during weekends. "During weekend the business goes up 30 to 40 percent than the regular days" adds Rahul, a businessperson. The business establishments especially on Khadebazar and Ambedkar road do good business. There are three routes to Goa from Belgaum, average 100km one will get Goa border.

They hardly have any recreational facilities...Goan towns depend a lot on Belgaum district for much of their needs

Goa may set up Special Investment Regions
Quote:
Press Trust of India

Panaji, Feb. 25:

Goa is mulling setting up Special Investment Regions (SIRs) to attract global and domestic investment in the industrial sector, years after the erstwhile Congress Government had abruptly scrapped Special Economic Zones fearing influx of migrants.

The draft investment-cum-industrial policy prepared by the State Government has laid a special thrust on development of SIRs to attract investments in the industrial sector, a senior official in the State Industries Department said on Monday.

The draft policy would be placed in the public domain for suggestions and objections in the next couple of months, he said.

“Special Investment Regions would mean special areas demarcated for development with their own industrial, social and urban infrastructure on par with global standards, to attract global as well as domestic investments,” according to the policy document.

The SIRs will attract large investments, economies of scale and world class infrastructure arrangements, the official said.

The policy also explores the possibility of setting up National Manufacturing and Investment Zone, on the lines of the Union Government, so as to attract investment and provide quality infrastructure and support.

The Congress Government at the helm in Goa earlier had scrapped its SEZ policy, after allocating land for 12 firms in its industrial estate, fearing that going ahead with the policy would have triggered large-scale migration in the State.

The draft industrial policy also emphasises formation of Investment Promotion Board by enacting suitable legislation.

“The mandate of the Board will include identifying the investment requirements of the State, prioritising public investments in specific projects, deciding modalities of funding, ensuring timely clearance of the investment proposals and reviewing the execution of the projects,” proposes the draft document.

According to the official, the Board would act as a facilitator for investment promotion and serve as a single window clearance authority for medium and large scale industries.

Dubai's Jumeriah Group in talks for hotel in Goa

Quote:
DUBAI: Dubai's leading luxury hotel chain Jumeriah Group is planning a new venture in Goa ahead of the opening of its debut hotel in Mumbai in 2017.

"We're in serious discussions with the owner in Mumbai to do another hotel in Goa. It's culturally close, physically close (and) easy to administer from our head office in Dubai," said Gerald Lawless, Jumeirah Group CEO and President.

The company had signed a management agreement in the year 2012 to operate the 470-room property in Mumbai's Lower Parel district.

Now it is in negotiations with the same developer to open a second property in Goa, although there was currently no timeframe.

Talking to Arabian Business, Lawless said that Jumeirah was eager to expand further in India, but had struggled with overcoming bureaucratic obstacles in the country.

"The barriers to entry are high, which is one of the difficulties in India and even then when you do get that entry, the bureaucracy is so cumbersome for the developer it takes ages to get something up and running," he was quoted as saying.

Panaji, May 5:

Two mascots of Goa tourism, which are being developed to spread social awareness messages among tourists against problems like drugs and paedophilia, would soon be unveiled.

Both the mascots would be launched during the ‘Coconut and Cashew Festival 2014’, which would be held from May 21-25, Goa tourism director Nikhil Desai said.

The state tourism department has for the first time put up this festival which will display various uses and products of two of these most important nuts of Goan life — cashew and coconut.

The concept of the mascot has been brought about to ensure that social awareness messages against drugs, paedophilia, overcharging, about cleanliness and other issues can reach the tourists, Desai said.

Goa attracts more than 2.5 million tourists annually.

“The nomenclature (name) for the mascots has been kept under wraps. It would be announced at the right time,” he said.

After beach tourism, the next focus would be on agro tourism, he said.

“Promoting cashew and coconut is a part of agro tourism,” he said, adding that right from the dishes of cashew and coconut to the fun games associated with the two fruits, would be on display during the five-day event.

Promotion of cashew feny would also be done, he said.

“It is cool to have cashew feny. Why should one spend on costly liquor when we have cashew feny,” Desai said.

PANAJI:
The Goa government's 1,100 crore JICA water supply and sewerage project is expected to be completed by March 2015 but the government's dream to provide 24x7 water supply to entire Goa will be fulfilled by December 2016, PWD minister Dhavalikar has assured.

The government is not only augmenting the Selaulim water supply facility but also building new water treatment plants at various places in Goa.
These include Ganjem (27 MLD), Opa (25 MLD), Maisal (15 MLD) and Canacona (20 MLD).

While the government seemed occupied with the big infrastructure projects, it seemed to neglect the roads.
The GSIDC building the concrete road from Miramar to Dona Paula has been delayed and caused much inconvenience to the public.
But the GSIDC is going to build two more concrete roads in Panaji shortly.

Many roads around Goa have been awaiting repairs for a long time.
The road from Taleigao church to St Inez resembled a war zone for long and has not been perfectly repaired.
Roads in Calangute - a tourist hotspot - are in bad shape.
The Arlem-Raia road is just one of the roads in South Goa that has been neglected.

I think a landmark luxury project, “Ashok Beleza”, by Peninsula Land Limited is better than this. It is a luxury/second home project coming up in Panjim, Goa.

W Retreat & Spa

Hi,

Does anyone have an update or pictures of the W Retreat & Spa due to open on Vagator Beach later this year??

I am planning a big event closer to the end of the year but can't find any update or pictures or general information about the hotel, which is very strange I believe. If anyone has any info, please post it.

Thanks
