WTF! Notre Dame knock off!

Well of course it is! Notre Dame inspired many cathedrals in the US. When Europeans moved here they weren't looking to create "revolutionary" or "cutting edge" churches. :lol:

Here is another copy. In my city (Indianapolis) the German catholics created their new church mimicking the Cologne Cathedral.

St Gerrards Church
The church has abandoned this building - they want to dismantle it and send it to Atlanta - to be rebuilt in the middle of a suburban PARKING LOT!!!

Buffalo has hundreds of these wonderful churches, and a lot of them are abandoned and going to rot...











St Josephs Old Cathedral - demolished!!!
This used to be the "central" cathedral in Buffalo - St Paul's above is not "it" as a result of the demolition

Well, if someday completed, the Saint John the Divine in NY would be spectacular, saint patrick is great and original in design but it's surrounded by giants dwarfing its beautiful spires...while saint john the divine is pretty isolated, and just around the corner from columbia and other interesting spots not so touristically crowded...

National Shrine of immaculate conception in Washington is the mother cathedral for US catholics, with 140 meters long and 73 wide is the eighth largest religious structure in the world.
Is built in an original neo-bizantine style:

Apparently the construction is just on hold pending fat checks from benefactors. this is NY's equivalent of Sagrada Familia.

This cathedral will be really huge, and its facade and as a structure will have nothing to envy to Canterbury cathedral, except the historical/artistical side, of course ;)

Detroit's Blessed Sacrament Cathedral (head of the Archdiocese of Detroit)... interestingly enough Detroit is the only USA Archdiocese with 3 living Archbishops (2 emeritus, one active)... Edmund Cardinal Szoka (age 84), Adam Cardinal Maida (age 82) and Archbishop Allen Vigneron (age 63)....

Some beatiful cathedrals there! :okay:

Well, I used to think Virginia had two of the best cathedrals out there.....but seeing some of these (Indianapolis) have really taken me by surprise. Awesome structures out there, that's for sure!

Here's the one in Roanoke.....very impressive for a small city in the mountains (highly protestant area btw)-

Really nice! :) I see they took their inspiration from French, English, Italian, German and Spanish sacral architecture. I sometimes can even name the the direct inspiration.
