Not a good reason.

Anyways, here is the statement of the president of the Heritage Conservation Society Ivan Henares on the demolition of the Admiral Hotel.

Quote:
We are saddened by the demolition of the Admiral Hotel along Roxas Boulevard, a historic prewar building designed by eminent architect Fernando Ocampo. Anchor Land Holdings, Inc. said in a statement that the decision to demolish the Admiral Hotel "was made with the interests of all its future guests, staff, and the general public in mind, whose safety Anchor Land prioritizes."

However, that decision was not for Anchor Land to make on its own. According to Republic Act No. 10066, all buildings that are fifty years or older are presumed to be Important Cultural Properties. And thus, before a demolition permit can be issued by the local government unit, a building owner must first seek approval from government cultural agencies concerned to lift that presumption of declaration.

Uhm, HCS is not a government agency guys. You may have mistaken HCS (Heritage Conservation Society) from NHCP (National Historical Commission of the Philippines). It is a non-profit NGO so don't put the blame on them for acting 'late'. Blame the guys at City Hall because they gave out demolition permits!

Kahit walang nangyaring historical sa admiral, by law, that structure is still considered a heritage site considering it survived world war 2 and is more than 50 years old.

Just a few recent snaps of the ongoing construction (and destruction!) at Admiral Baysuits
(The two close-up ones were just taken on my old cellphone but i will get my camera out, hopefully for some better photos, when I get back to Manila...)

What was left of the old Admiral Hotel in the first week of October, 2014

Tsk tsk tsk.

and from their website:

Quote:
This much is to be expected from its developer, Anchor Land Holding Inc. which is known for its 100% commitment
and has ensured that every stage of the construction and design has been taken care splendidly.
Looks like they failed their own motto..
