More details on the 12 storey tower planned for Rockdale.

The D/A is actually being sold for about $6 million dollars to someone who wants to develop it. Still no address as yet hence the "mystery tower" status.

A two tower development one of nine stories, the other about 8 storeys is slated for the site of the Holland Building on the Princes Highway, right across the road from Arena, which is now five levels above ground (excluding the ground level). I'm confident that this is 552 Princes Highway.

It looks like highrise development is set to be scaled back, after Liberal Councillor John Flowers was elected as mayor to Rockdale Council, only the second Liberal to take control of the council in it's 133 year history. Flowers wants an end to the wall to wall developments that have taken place in the area as of late. Even some of the ALP councillors are believed to be opposed to increased development.

And it's interesting to note too that it is a very balanced distribution of the 15 seats to the parties, liberals have five , ALP have 5, Independents have 4 and the Greens have one seat.

Also the scaffholding has been slowly coming off Arena revealing a nice tower and the Landmark tower at the cnr of Bryant & Market Street's has topped out, but is still drapped in scaffholding.

It's only a scaling back Cul. I bet they will approve some tall ones, but only where it's approporiate. Also it shouldn't affect the development Wolli Creek too much either.

No, it shouldn't affect Wolli Creek - the masterplan building regulations for that area have already been decided.

Anyone know how tall things can go at Wolli Creek,I went into the Australands sales office a few months ago and the agents there said it would be the Chatswood of Southern Sydney.

But being more specific what are the height limits?

I read a letter yesterday in "The Leader" written by a Brighton resident who claims Flowers actually supported highrise development in parts of Brighton and was pushing residents to sell up and move out. This comes as a 4/5 storey development for a three storey zone comes in. This may suggest that highrise development, may not be as scaled back as it seems.

Here's the rendering of a new 9-storey tower, still under construction but which has now topped out on Princes Highway, across from Rockdale Plaza:

The area has really been densifying with 8-12 storey developments lately!

wow, nice one finn, i reckon all these 9 storey developements reach approx 30m or 100ft high. this seems to be fine with council anything higher they get there nickers in a knot!
im pretty sure the height reg for wooli ck is 60m or 20 storeys.

Here's a pic of the building Fabian mentioned, although it is different to the rendering that was in the Leader - this one is the building from the back I think - the other one has the road at the front. From here it looks to be about 11 storeys, but its hard to really tell because it looks to be on a podium from this angle.

There is no address given, but it says it is in "the heart of Rockdale", and is actually a development site sold with DA approval, so we wont get any details about it until the purchaser of the property wants to start construction.
Rockdale Council has approved the tower

It's being built on the site of 551-553 Princes Highway & Keats Ave Rockdale where some rundown shopfronts are just near Bay St. It's just a short walk to the station & shops.

The Leader's Real Estate Section has a rendering of the Princes Highway side of the tower. It looks quite nice.

Thanks Cul. It looks even better from further up the Highway such as around Rockdale Town Hall.

The site of the Rockdale Community Church of Christ in Bryant Street is now slated for Highrise development with an eight storey residential tower to be built on the site. The church has grown in numbers and it has beend decided it was better to sell off the site.

When it's done, the church will occupy the ground floor.

There no heritage issues as the church was only built in the 1970's with sloping walls running along the length of the church.

Is that the one kinda across the Highway from Arena? That's one ugly church! Looks very 70's and kinda retro I guess - maybe it does has heritage value, lol. I'll be glad to see it go!

Yeah, when we here the word "church", it doesn't mean it's worth always saving. Like that thing on George St downtown opposite Maroun's 720 George St site.

Rockdale could do with a few more Arena quality buildings. Quite a nice outcome, Arena is.

There are no churches of any faith along the Princes Highway in Rockdale. As stated in my last post, it is located in Bryant Street right across the road from the Rockdale Town and the offices at Rockdale Council. The shops next to the church at the roundabout with Market Street will probably be demolished to make way for the complex as well.

That can't be true! On the train going through Rockdale I often see a sign on one of the churches along the highway that says: "No Christ, No Life - Know Christ, Know Life" and think "hmmm, that's clever!"

We have the name for the tower to be built at 551-53 Princes Highway. It is to be known as "The Jackson"

Also tonight, a two tower development, each nine storeys tall goes to Council. It is proposed for George Street.
