NCT's Shanghai series - People's Square

More picture from this summer - finally the Nanjing Road thread is no longer the solitary one in this so called series ... These pictures were taken on the same day as those in the Nanjing Road thread.

Once the site of the racecourse in the colonial days, People's Square now houses the government building, Shanghai Museum, the Opera House and the Urban Planning Museum.

This particular trip on the 2nd September started at a bus station just to the south of People's Square. Shanghai Museum's circular roof is just visible behind this bus.

Office Towers in an area called Baxianqiao.

Immediately to the east of the bus station is the Shanghai Concert Hall.

Marvel Hotel, a building with unique Chinese characteristics constructed in 1929.

A clearer shot of the Concert Hall

Dashijie - a landmark leisure and entertainment complex, built in 1917, under renovation at the time the photo was taken. The elevated road above makes it rather difficult getting the building into shot, and this was the best I could do on the elevated walkway.

Bloody flyover - now all you can get is the turret.

Looking East - the tower with the crown is the Bund Centre.

Looking north - Radisson Hotel, Planning Museum and Park Hotel are visible.

Back onto street level. Continue strolling northwards along Tibet Road ...

Landmark building at the corner of Fuzhou Road.

In many ways Shanghai isn't unlike London, where you see a magic mix all sorts of styles and uses.

You wouldn't see such scenes in Paris, but I think nothing illustrates the vibrancy of a city better than old and new, high and low sitting side by side.
