I used to know the owners there a long time ago.

Yes, I met her recently and she is a lovely woman. Their boy is so adorable.

Done!

Smart move by GAP to give a bit of visibility to their Bloor store:

Awesome pics! I wish they tried to align the veins on the marble facade of Mulberry. Nice look otherwise.

interesting how the store just came to be- wonder how long the name D&G is going to stay afloat- considering they are going to prison. tres sad.. hate to be a skeptic- but it doesn't look good to the future of the House of D&G

I'm imagining it may be similar to what happened to Escada. They have reopened on Bloor in a smaller shop:

I can't see it being of anyone's advantage to shut down a lot of profitable shops.

That GAP is such an eye-sore. I'm holding out hope they eventually vacate this rather large location and something a bit more new/exciting moves in.

I actually think it looks better now than it did in its previous state. My general impression of GAP is that it is so very bland. I had hoped that Nike place would leave Bloor and it appears it has; now I hope Winners takes a hike.

Bloor St as a whole is looking AWESOME; it has never, ever looked so impressive as it does this summer. It is no Madison Avenue, but it is giving Sloane Street in London a run for its money.

Bloor (and Yorkville in general) is about to undergo a massive transformation that will make it rival any of the world's most luxurious shopping streets. Adequate luxury space is very scarce and at a premium in Toronto so it will take a bit of time before a reorganization is done, but it's happening in a big way. Stay tuned...

So we have...

* Hazelton Lanes redevelopment.
* Cumberland Terrace redevelopment.
* I am suspecting Bazis and their 1 Yorkville Avenue development will bring in retail as well.
* Holt Renfrew redevelopment.
* 27 Yorkville redevelopment.
* Empire Communities development that ties into Hazelton Lanes.
* 1 Bloor as well - the obvious one.

What else am I missing?

Bloor itself between Avenue and Yonge will also be undergoing major changes with some retailers relocating and other leaving outright.

By the way, Nandos is coming to downtown Toronto. They are a South African chain and made this hilarious ad years ago:

Although the stores look nice, I can't understand how people get so excited about stores that 99% of the population cannot afford to buy its products.

There seems to be a number of suburban Nandos about, and even more of them in Vancouver... but as far as I can tell this one is the first downtown location. It is part of the Burano complex on Bay Street, in the reconstructed McLaughlin motors retail space. I'm curious about it; the food doesn't look all that different or special in the photos but maybe there is something unique about the taste. They seem to use peri-peri a lot.

That is very egalitarian concept, but I would say it's all part of the mix of the city, Leaf. People here also get excited by condos that sell for 30 million dollars, which 99.9999999999999% of us cannot afford, or exotic restaurants, or exclusive yachts/sailboats that are well out of the reach of most of people. Many members thrill to see Lamborghinis or Ferraris drive by when they know full well they will never drive one. People hero-worship athletes and will spend a week's salary to attend one of their games when said athletes make more in one year than they will in their entire lifetime of hard work. A sales clerk who makes 12 bucks an hour will somehow scrape together the $350 necessary to worship a multi-millionaire singer like Madonna sing at the Rogers Centre. A well rounded city has all sorts of activities, festivals, retail, bars, housing, sports, etc... that can appeal to the entire spectrum of society from those who hand out flyers on Yonge Street, to the stockbrokers of Bay Street. We may not personally use all of the services, but it is interesting to see them arrive. People often envy other world cities (rather a lot, actually...), but what makes world cities so interesting is their broad mix of venues and activities. I don't see why Toronto should be any different, because it would be a pretty dull city if everything was geared solely at one income group. We have suburban malls for that!

Not a fan of Nandos. I went there once and never went back. I found the portions to be small and not that flavourful. I usually stick to Churrasco Villa

Went to Against The Grain at Corus Quay last night for dinner with my fiancee and the in-laws. Pretty nice food, beer selection os good. The Sail-In Cinema was just starting at that point as well.Really good vibe around that area last night

I had the buttermilk fried chicken, collard greens with pork belly and corn

I fully intended to go to the Sail in Cinema last night, but we went to the Ex instead. Had a whale of a day; tons of fun! Ate ribs and corn:
