It would have been awesome. The San Fernando side of campus definitely needs to be redone.

Not much pushback? Are you kidding? Fed Realty barely got this project through the lawsuit threats from the neighborhood just east.

They are doing fine with their conservative approach to the multiple phases of residential and office buildings. They're not going to screw it up with taking on a high-rise structure.

I'm going to miss my luxuriously indulgent free surface parking lot though. No more left at Santana Row.

Simeon’s San Jose© Mixed-Use Development Grows to 230 Units, But Challenges Persist

http://news.theregistrysf.com/simeon...enges-persist/

Quote:
According to Mike Kim, the chief investment officer at San Francisco-based SIMEON, the developer in charge of the project, it took roughly a year to revise the development plan. A time in which the expensive Bay Area real estate market has made it even more difficult for Kim and his team to proceed with approvals and construction.

“Since then, the market was very dynamic for a whole for host of reasons, but the net effect of them has been a steep rise in construction costs mainly due to the high cost of qualified labor and the dampening effect on rent growth as we begin to reach supply-demand equilibrium for the high-end, high-income renter cohort,” explained Kim of the market’s progression since 2015. “Relatively low current yields and concerns over future cap rates require a special type of investor—one who is willing to build through the bumps and own and operate long-term.”

According to Kim, the project is expected to cost $130 million dollars, and SIMEON anticipates that the City will approve the project based on its previous approvals. The development is scheduled for a director’s hearing, which will take place on June 6th. Kim estimates that the project will be completed by the Summer of 2020.
Looks like this project is finally ready to get off the ground if Mr. Kim is a straight shooter.

Will not since he doesn't yet have financing lined up.

So many projects that I can't keep track anymore. This is Post Street, right?

Hotel proposed near San Jose airport, Marriott brand eyed

https://www.mercurynews.com/2018/06/...azon-facebook/

Quote:
A Marriott hotel could rise near San Jose International Airport under a proposal being floated by the developers of the Coleman Highline office complex.

The proposed hotel would contain 175 rooms, rise five stores and total 120,000 square feet, according to documents on file with San Jose planners.

Hunter is in the early planning stages with San Jose city officials, so the timing of the hotel isn’t precise at this point.

The hotel would be located at the southeast end of the development, next to Avaya Stadium and near a building that’s been leased to 8×8, a fast-growing cloud communications and software firm.

i wasn't aware of any lawsuits from the neighborhood. if that's the case, i'd bet the mid rise hotel and residential to the north of lot 12 is also in court as well. if residents are concerned about development in the area, they better move. it reminds me of the guy on the news last night that bought a house in palo alto 6 years ago and is now complaining about the railroad tracks that have been next to his property for over a century. it's hard to take people seriously in cases like these. our next governor needs to be serious about reforming ceqa for cases exactly like this.

glad to see they're moving forward! i'm not so hot on the podium facade redesign though. this treatment looks a bit cheesy in reality. the 1700 webster project in oakland has a similar podium look that is poorly executed, imo. image courtesy of minesweeper on the skyscraperpage forums.

Here's the empty weed-strewn lot today from roughly the same angle.

"... not much going on out here other than world domination by a small group of tech companies. But on a happier, less paranoid note, San Jose has one of the last three remaining Japantowns in the country.”

I think we have made some great progress... given SJ's track record.

I wanted to make an updated and semi-exhaustive version of your collage, but I couldn't find a wide enough, ideal view of Downtown, so here's a far more basic, map-based version
(Red = under construction)

Edit: Sorry Y'all!! Idk how to constrain image size!! Any pointers so I can fix it?

Valley Fair has brought out the big guns now.

An Erickson Air-Crane. A huge heavy-lift helicopter to lift beams & equipment.

Gotta love billion dollar projects.
