The amount of floor spaces that they will gain by making it squarish is not that much. But now if they are going to add structural steel, won't a lot of space gained be eaten up by the additional columns?
I don't think there will be additional columns for the extension (unless they're going to extend it further out front), but I do agree with you about them going throuh all that trouble just to come up with another box.

The new design isn't bad though. I just hate that they're stuck with those huge featureless bare walls on the sides like with the original intent, but they're still too cheap to clad it with glass.

Because Ayala is allergic to curves! Ayala Architecture is about straight, boxy, boring designs. Sort of their 'branding' in all of their projects if you haven't noticed.. LOL

I ride the UV express stationed at the parking lot next to this, and I've been advised that the terminal is moving to somewhere near the Starbucks branch on Rodriguez St. in January because the parking lot is going to be closed.

So maybe the lot is going to be developed na (long shot), or it's going to be used as staging area for the AFT (more likely scenario).

Still, I hope a new tower will be built here that will be substantial enough to cover up the Alveo-branded firewall.

Picture from today: One can see some construction workers but they seem to be busy with some interior works cos Jaka tower has barely changed since the launch of AFT in October 2015. Does someone know when the structural works for the additional floors will start?

What do you mean it barely changed??? Can you not see??? It has ONE additional column now formed! Its the biggest change this structure ever had since the 90s...

It just boggles the mind all the trouble they are going through just to make this building a box!!!! It looks like they continue on with the reinforced concrete structure as if it was the old design with the curve but with the exterior steel attached to it!!! Madness!!!

Indeed.

Although, from an engineering point of view, the solution they've made is quite remarkable.

If it will end up looking like this or better, then I'm for it 100%. The original plans were so 80's.

You can see in this rendering 2 transparent levels showing the original columns placed in a curved configuration above the podium and have some idea how they'll go about flattening that glass facade from the bottom up.

MDC

And I hope the parking lot next to it gets developed soon and with a building design to cover that AFT podium firewall (left side at least).

This is going to be very interesting, in an insane way, seeing how the building goes up with these silly modifications just to make the building a box...
