________

CITY OF BEAUCOUZE. SUBURBS CITY OF ANGERS.

L'ATOLL

ONE OF THE MOST AMAZING SHOPPING/RETAIL CENTER IN EUROPE.

The Atoll is one of THE first commercial eco-park IN EUROPE:
taken into account by the noise,
the gallery closed and reserved for the deliveries,
energy savings,
management of rainwaters,
photovoltaic solar panels,
heat insulation.

The Atoll gives the priority to the environment and to the quality of the living environment in its circular surrounding wall.

________

L'ATOLL SHOPPING MALL.
________

________

Architects: Antonio Virga Architecte + AAVP Architecture

Location: Angers, France

Project Management: Antonio Virga architect, AAVP Architecture – Vicent Parreira

Project Managers: Thomas Lastennet architecte, Romain Braida architecte urbanist, Gwendal Herve architecte

Project Year: 2012
________

________

Project Area: 250,693 sqm

Coordination: Girec engineering

Lighting: Les Eclaireurs

Landscaping: Atelier Paul Arène
________

The four poles, separated by four corrifors, rise up like four great entry porches.
The structure is covered with a white aluminium net, which is perforated and backlit.
The shops of the Atoll are arranged in a dynamic layout, while the carpark
blends into the garden.

The building´s envelope, 8-12m from the main structure, provides a protected area behind the shops for deliveries, away from the customers´ view at the center of the Atoll, and provides a clear passage for security services.

The outer cover runs from the inside out, following the access porches up to the roof to form an awning covering part of the promenade.
On the inside, the awning rises up over a glass wall offering views of the various shop fronts.
The shop front can be seen clearly avove and below the awning.

This mall "ATOLL" just presented doesn't sell food.

It's a shopping center which sells clothes, house equipment, "do-it-yourself" products.

And this center stays in an human scale.....more.

ATOLL is a precursory, a new generation retail center regarding the environmental ecologic and architectural conception.
________

I also love small stores and the store you have just posted has a soul.

Thus I also agree with you.

we need small shops and big shops,
but an example if you want to build a house, you don't find everything you needs in a small shop.
________

last thing, I am acute:

because I adapt my thread to the members of skyscrapercity who are especially eager for unusual, surprising informations and like "superlative"

i didn't create this thread for me but for all the members here who are mostly between 18 years and 28 years old,

people, forumers of this age bracket like original comments and "sensationnal news".

I post for them. I reassure you: to show off is not my thing.
________

And I know very well that there are more impressive infrastructures in China in USA than in France.
________

On the other hand walking in a 300 000 sqm shopping mall, it would be not my thing.

too big infrastructures oppresses me, assaults me, thus when it's not human-sized.
________

If I was in front of burj dubai, I would be impressed it is certain, but also crushed, all which is too much big frightens me.
________

Otherwise this center ATOLL is a real visual, social success, and we feel comfortable there.
________

In Paris per example I adore old passages and old stores which have a soul, more than all these new franchised, standardized shops.

I understand you, we often blame the shopping malls, because they can ruin the small shopkeepers.

but you have the same problem everywhere on the earth in our "occidental" nations.

and this phenomena is still more important dramatic in THE STATES per example.

20 years ago i was 1 week in Ohio State in the suburbs of Cleveland, the city was Lorain...the center of Lorain was mostly dead.....because hundreds of big shops were in the periphery.

are you from Spain ? if yes. you have to same problem in Spain.

The city on google maps showed by you is MARANS not far from La Rochelle, and the street showed by googlemaps looks dilapidated....It is not a French specificity...you can see this everywhere.

in the same time, when the consumer has the choice between a small shop and a big shop, he goes to the big....because more articles and it is cheaper.

There is also a problem of desertification in our rural regions, but when some thing is not profitable.

We are all responsible.

i know the city of VITORIA, if you are from VITORIA, its a town of BASQUE country in Spain not far from france, and you can be lucky because your town has the lowest unemployment rate in SPAIN.
