CS100 now on route proving ( and training ground handling staff etc) across Europe at Swiss destination airports, Bombardier provide the pilots not Swiss.

The first CS100 service flown by Swiss themselves is now scheduled for June. (and CS300 Certification is due about then too with first deliveries of the CS300 to Air Baltic due in late 2016).

Bombardier also took the opportunity this week to inform the media that they intend to deliver 15-20 C Series Aircraft in 2016 starting with the first one to Swiss in Late May or June.

However as the C Series seemingly lost a big customer when Republic Airways went into Chapter 11 bankruptcy a month ago the new flow...as ever ....is not all good.

Is Delta placing an order for the C Series?

Rumblings over on the pilots forums looks like there is something going on and the C Series was in Atlanta this week for a day or so. Also they are saying that Delta will take the Republic order over.

Delta and other large airlines have union deals with seat minima, their pilots won't fly anything under 80 seats as part of that and likely less than 100 in future. So the CS is the new entry level.

Then there is the economics and this before the pilot shortage ( which does not affect majors as badly)

Finally there are short field and noise restricted airport advantages where the CS crucifies the 737-700. EG Reagan in Washington might allow a CS operation where a 737-700 could be too loud. The 737 Max series will not be as quiet as a CS either.

Delta Said Near Deal to Buy 75 Bombardier C Series Aircraft



Delta Air Lines Inc. is nearing an agreement to buy 75 Bombardier Inc. C Series, a person familiar with the talks said, potentially handing the Canadian planemaker a resounding victory in its bid to turn around the struggling aircraft program.
The purchase also would include options for 50 more of the single-aisle jet to replace some of the oldest and smallest planes in Delta’s fleet, said the person, who asked not to be named because the talks are private.
The stakes are high for Bombardier, which is still trying to land a marquee U.S. customer for the C Series. United Continental Holdings Inc. twice this year opted for Boeing Co.’s 737 rather than the Bombardier plane. Bloomberg News reported Friday that Delta was nearing a decision on upgrading its single-aisle fleet as it seeks to replace its McDonnell Douglas MD-88 workhorse jets.
“Bombardier needs this order,” said George Ferguson, senior analyst for aerospace and airlines at Bloomberg Intelligence. Delta will have to train pilots on the plane and stock up on spare parts to add the C Series to its fleet, he said. “If there’s any airline that’s well positioned to handle an absolute mix of aircraft, it’s definitely Delta.”
A final decision hasn’t been made, Delta said in an e-mailed statement. A Bombardier spokeswoman declined to comment.
Stock Surge
Bombardier climbed 11 percent to close at C$1.59 Thursday in Toronto after the Wall Street Journal reported on the talks. A pact is expected to be completed by the end of this month, the newspaper said.
The state-of-the-art C Series, with a composite frame and efficient fuel consumption, is more than two years late and more than $2 billion over budget as it nears its commercial debut at Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s Swiss International unit in the third quarter. A firm order of 75 planes would be the largest yet for the aircraft.
Delta has also been in talks with Airbus Group SE, Boeing Co. and Embraer SA as it scouts replacements for 116 MD-88s, which have an average age of 25 years, as well as 50-seat jets flown by regional affiliates.
The Delta order would be the first since Ed Bastian was named in February to be the airline’s next chief executive. The carrier has gained a reputation as a savvy buyer of new and used aircraft under CEO Richard Anderson, who is retiring next month. Delta said in January that it was considering the C Series as the airline phases out some of its smallest jets.

It's the big deal Bombardier needs to get over the hump. It's just one potential order but feels like a company saving order. Fabulous news all around.... if it gets confirmed.

CSeries maiden flight scheduled!

Swiss has scheduled the maiden flight of CS100!

It is LX638, on 15th of July, 2016, ZRH-CDG. It has since been sold out.
The next scheduled lines are:

Bombardier Inc. almost won a crucial order from Delta Air Lines Inc. the last time the airline bought new single-aisle planes, but a deal fell apart when the plane maker told Delta it would not make a bigger version of its C Series aircraft. Now, as the two companies again appear close to a single-aisle order, the industry is abuzz with chatter about whether Bombardier has agreed to stretch the CS300 to include a plane for Delta that would offer as many as 175 seats. The negotiations on a new Delta order have their roots in the 2011 competition, when the C Series made the finals, battling against Airbus Industrie and Boeing Co.
In that order, Delta chose 100 Boeing 737-900 jets as the mainstay of its larger single-aisle fleet, or planes with more than 150 seats. It delayed ordering replacements for its smaller and older single-aisle jets that seat 100 to 150 passengers, giving Bombardier’s C Series another kick at the can. An order from Delta now would be a breakthrough for the C Series, which is more than two years behind schedule, more than $2-billion (U.S.) over budget and has put Bombardier in such difficulty that the Quebec government has paid $1-billion for an equity stake in the program, and the Montreal-based transportation giant is also seeking federal financial help. “They definitely wanted a larger aircraft previously,” said one source familiar with the 2011 Delta negotiations.
Bombardier resisted building a larger CS500 version of the plane, believing the 100-to-150-seat segment represented the best niche for a new, more fuel-efficient plane and that Airbus and Boeing would be less likely to take steps to make sure the C Series never got off the ground if their cozy duopoly in the market above 150 seats was not threatened.
Bombardier miscalculated. In a deal announced earlier this year between Boeing and United Airlines, Boeing offered a 75-per-cent discount from the list price of the 737NG, indicating how anxious the company is to keep Bombardier out.
A commitment to a CS500 or a promise to study whether it could make a larger plane could signal that other airlines want a brand-new airplane and not Airbus or Boeing planes with new engines on aircraft that were designed decades ago. British Airways has also asked about a larger version of the plane, industry analyst and AirInsight partner Ernie Arvai said in a report on Tuesday. A 150-seat CS500 would have lower fuel and maintenance costs than a 150-seat Airbus A320, even with the new more fuel-efficient engine Airbus is offering, Mr. Arvai said. It is a similar story when the Bombardier plane is compared with the 162-seat Boeing 737-800. Adding four rows of five seats each to the 130-seat CS300 is a short stretch that should be relatively simple and take the plane up to 150 seats, he wrote. “The wing is certainly strong enough to support the additional weight, and the development of a third model should require low development costs and minimal testing of an existing model.”
The Delta MD88s, which the airline is seeking to replace, seat 149 people. Delta owns 83 MD88s and leases another 33. They have an average age of 25.2 years. A CS500 would be an ideal plane for Delta to replace the MD88s, one industry source said. “The CS500 is virtually a drop-in for the MD – just 30-year newer technology,” the source said.
But an aerospace industry source in Europe said he would bet money that the official announcement of the Delta deal will not include a CS500, saying Bombardier does not have the cash to develop a larger model and will need to wait until the revenues generated by the smaller CS100 and CS300 planes starting rolling in later this year.

Bombardier Inc., the world’s third-biggest planemaker, is in negotiations about a deal with a prospective new airline serving the tourist island of Qeshm in southern Iran.

Montreal-based Bombardier’s Chairman Pierre Beaudoin held talks with officials from the Qeshm Free Zone during a recent visit to Tehran, a spokesman for the district at the southern end of the Persian Gulf said by telephone. The manufacturer confirmed that discussions in Iran are under way.

Bombardier makes a variety of aircraft models, spanning turboprops through regional jets to the C Series narrow-body designed to compete with short-haul planes from Boeing Co. and Airbus Group SE. Airbus has already secured a 118-jet, $27 billion sale to Iran, while Boeing started talks earlier this month.

“We’ve had continued discussions -- they’re exploratory discussions -- with a number of people there,” Bombardier spokeswoman Marianella de la Barrera said of Iran. She added that the company has “identified significant opportunities in the region with regards to the commercial aviation sector.”

Planemakers are targeting Iran as the country seeks to renew its aging aircraft fleet and modernize archaic infrastructure following January’s lifting of economic sanctions imposed over Middle Eastern country’s nuclear program.

Qeshm Free Zone officials have held talks with several companies but are keen to strike a deal with Bombardier in the next two months, the spokesman said.

The Canadian company, which reckons Iran will need about 300 planes over the next decade, declined to comment on the topics or aircraft models discussed.

Iran Air may remain a sales prospect despite the Airbus purchase, with Chairman Farhad Parvaresh saying after that deal that the carrier would need at least 20 regional jets and that Bombardier had made a presentation.
