TOKYO 東京 | Shibuya Scramble Square 渋谷スクランブルスクエア (Shibuya Station) | 230m | U/C

I decided to open a thread for the redevelopment of Shibuya Station.

At first I will feature all projects in this thread, but later this should become the thread just for the station including the Station East Tower. The other towers around the station will get their own threads.

The renders for 3 of the towers in this whole redevelopment where published earlier this year.

I didn't post some news about the redevelopment of the Tokyo plaza (see 道玄坂地区 in the 1st picture) that came out last month since it was also subject to a height reduction from 160m to 120m. Today's separate press release shows a new render.

I don't get it, on the title of the thread you say the building is 230 meters but when one looks at the building's info you see only 210 meters. Which height is correct?

The new station of the Ginza line is part of this redvelopment?

Thanks for opening a thread for this anyways.

230m

And all the changes to all the stations including the connection between the Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Fukutoshin Line are part of the redevelopment. Even Shibuya Hikarie is even considered as part of it since it's makes it possible for Tokyu to start to close down the Tokyu Department Store, Toyoko Store (East) at the end of this month which is also needed for the new Ginza Line station.

This is an amazing development but 2027? That seems an awfully long time til completion, even the first building won't be complete until 2020. I can imagine the difficulties they'll face with a major redevelopment around Shibuya Station but still, it's a really long wait...........

The 1st building will be completed in 2017, but the tallest tower will indeed only be completed in 2020. But considering the actual construction of that tower will only start in 2015 it's only 5 years. That's pretty normal construction time for a tower this size in Japan.

JR East released a nice press release pdf concerning the final approval and the split of the complete project into 3 different smaller projects, the 3 towers that are now planned.

http://www.jreast.co.jp/press/2013/20130614.pdf

New renders

The new station entrance.

There will also be big changes underground, a better connection is planned between the deep station of the Tokyu Toyoko Line and Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line and the JR station.

I like the mai tower, maybe beacuse it reminds me waterras but this has a unique shape, at least viewed from the crossing, it seems to me carved into ice, lovely!
any new render about the 180m tower that will stand behind the main one?

So, what is the height of each tower? If I remember correctly? This project is supposed to have a few tall buildings?

I like the look of the towers, but I'm not impressed with the station. It looks very haphazard. And they might say that's the look they were going for (an I'm sure it has some functional logic to it), but I would say it's not an appropriate style to choose.

I'm just hoping that they improve access to the Ginza line finally.

Just noticed this in Wikipedia. A view of Shibuya Station from about 1960.
