Green and gold looks much better. It looks like wealth. Next time maybe they'll use a stainless steel panel tinted gold.
It does not have to ... Weather is very important in the maintenance of materials, and the climate of LA and NYC is completely different. For example, the sun abrade the color of the ceramics while the rain does not. In turn, rain erode much faster copper while the sun causes little effect on copper (apart from heating, but not in appearance)

Also, some developers like the oxidized appearance of copper because it gives an impression of patina, so they sometimes even opt to put green, oxidized copper on brand new buildings (I've seen that, it looks meh-ish, check The Hotel Adlon in Berlin).
With The Fitzroy, I guess it'll all depend on how the architects and the investors imagined the aging of their building. IMO, I hope it doesn't turn green for some time, it looks splendid the way it is now.
I've checked the church, it looks beautiful, but it turned dark - without the glossy luster that fresh copper has.
And yeah oxidized copper with pale turquoise patina tends to look real good. In terms of Art Deco I also prefer the bronze color because of the contrasting appeal and the metallic shine. Steel was always a huge deal in the US, but especially in the 20's - 30's, because of the thriving industries so it sort of put a mark on the designs of the era.

The people with the terraces (as small as they are) will be truly blessed, they're the only ones to sit around the glossy terracotta.

Actually, now that I look the renders a little closer, it appears there's a garden, or a terrace on the very top of the building?
I wonder if that's something that all of the residents have access to, or is it usually sold with the top apartments?
Have no idea what's the practice in New York although I suppose most investors value every square meter.
A lot of bronze on that last crown of the building.

Construction Update: The Fitzroy

Looking up at the north facade.

Facade installation is nearing completion at The Fitzroy, JDS Development Group and Largo Investments' 10-story luxury condo tower adjacent to the High Line. Roman and Williams are responsible for the design, which they claim was inspired by the iconic New York architecture of the early 20th Century. The facade features green terracotta panels with large copper-clad oak windows. When completed, the project will include 14 homes ranging from two- to five-bedrooms.

Copper is such a beautiful and underused material! Love the green + copper combo on the facade, gorgeous.
