Height rethink no tall order at Four Seasons
By Mark Johnson, Business Editor

"The most exceptional part of our product is delivered through the people side of the business" - Isadore Sharp. Vazhisojan/Gulf News

Dubai: The Four Seasons Hotel currently under construction at the Dubai Festival City site will rise to 320-metres, just a metre shorter than the landmark Burj Al Arab.

Isadore Sharp, the charismatic founder and chairman of the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, was in Dubai to meet with Al Futtaim Group, developers of the 2,000-acre Festival City project. In an exclusive interview with Gulf News he revealed blueprints for the hotel's size had been revised upwards.

"We have been meeting with developers to make the final decisions on how tall the hotel will be and I think it's been settled at around 320 metres. It will be a major high-rise tower on the Dubai skyline," he said.

When the project was first announced in September last year, it was reported the five-star luxury hotel would contain 250 rooms and villas. However this has also now been increased.

"Although the concept is the same, with a mixed-use component in the form of a residential development, our hotel will now have more than 350 rooms, including suites and what we call a garden low-rise complex," said Sharp.

The hotel tower will also contain a residential element and the Four Seasons group, which signed a deal for a 300-room hotel in Abu Dhabi back in September, will also manage and operate the festival city's golf resort and spa.

The development is expected to open in mid 2008. As with most other hotels in the emirate the facilities on offer at the Four Seasons will be on a par with other five-star locations in the emirate, offering luxuries now expected when visiting Dubai.

However, Sharp said the Four Seasons Dubai promised to be an 'emotional' experience for guests. "Luxury today is not about architecture and décor any more, it is about an exceptional experience.

"At Four Seasons, we aim to create an emotional product and everything has to meet that expectation." He said he welcomed the arrival of new players into the market like Giorgio Armani also in town this week who's first Armani-branded hotel at Burj Dubai is due to open in 2008.

"Beauty, aesthetics and every type of facility are expected, but the staff that populate your hotel are what really make the stay special.

"The most exceptional part of our product is delivered through the people side of the business," added Sharp.

failrly close to the airport for that height, but it will need a few friends to keep it company, as al aweer, rashidiya and the industrial zones arent exactly the most picturesque of neighbourhoods....

I WANT more skyscrapers in the area.

Make it happen... someone! lol

now then it is really ridiculous to make a height limit on SZR with the current limit along 300m + towers in DFC

Why not make it 322 m, to become world's second tallest hotel, rather than 3rd when completed.

DFC is probably the most interesting project so far in dubai.
