That would be just great! I think it would look amazing with three highrises there!

Well, who knows. I heard a rumour that SJ want to connect their rails to the Balder railway, to make their trips more fun!

It will be built in Örgrytevägen. That's the street you would walk from the Kanold hotel to the city centre. It's quite obvious they wont open this hotel before the tunnel construction site is gone. When is that? In 20 years?

If it's so obvious then why is in the production plan? And do you think that Västlänken will be allowed to shut down the whole city? Should we close Liseberg for a five year period?

It's good to be a realist because then you see through a lot of talk. Look at Gert Wingårdh's hotel in Hyllie for instance, it was so unrealistic that it was laughable. What hotel entrepreneur in their right mind would build a hotel like a U with single-sided corridors (poor logistics). And the rooms would only have views inwards (which is common for second class rooms, so this hotel would only have second class rooms and second class hotel rates I guess). It was crap of course and no wonder it was ditched.

Same goes for this Kanold hotel, it wont be competitive in this back water location (as long as the area is a construction site) and hence a poor investment.

But the hotel's clientele wont be tourists or similar. One could say that Scandic in Mölndal has a bad location, nothing of interest in the surrounding area, just suburban housing and a noisy motorway. But that doesn't change the fact the hotel almost always is sold out due to them being close to AstraZeneca. The Kanold hotel is the same since they will target a specific consumer group, they have a cluster of big corporations in the surrounding area. Besides it's further away from a possible Västlänken dig then Gothia, and you can enter the area from the south too, an area which will see major expansion in the near future.

Why isn't there a bridge (tram/pedestrian) built from Norra/Södra Hamngatan over to Lundbystrand. I would think that could be a really cool area. Have a modern city-center and the old-city center connected. I think all these industrial harbors shouldn't have a place in the city-center.

Edit: Just read though the previous pages. This has obviously been discussed

What is the future plan for Gothenburg (apart from some high-rises here and there)? Which areas will become denser? Is there some part of the harbor that will become commercial or residential? What about landfill? Can the width of the river be reduced to bring the two parts closer together (like between Lindholmen and Haga, or Lundbystrand and Nordstaden)? Is there a plan to move these docks further West to reduce the traffic of the biggest ships (which would make it easier to build low bridges)?
And what about Götatunneln. Why doesn't go further west to open up a longer section of the shore? I imagine it would make Järntorget nicer if wasn't on the outskirts, like it is now.

Kvillebäcken is the next big urbanisation project in the city, 1,600 apartments, will start construction this winter.

Next in line is Backaplan, right next to Kvillebäcken, which will house 5,000 new apartments and with focus on large shopping centres (not good for urban life...). In the future the idea is that Backaplan along with Kvillebäcken, Frihamnen, Lindholmen, and Ringön will form a new city centre on Hisingen. Lindholmen has slowly been urbanised the last few decades, but there is still huge amount of land to build on, Frihamnen and Ringön are not yet planned.

Skeppsbron will house ~400 apartments, a new hotel, and offices right next to the water.

Masthugget, 1,200 new apartments and offices etc, the planning stage have just started.

Then there's Gullbergsvass, but we haven't seen anything presented about it yet except for a highrise project and the plans for a new bridge.

Thank you very much for putting that together Krm500. Masthugget looks very nice. Looking forward to see the final plan.
