In this thread, we'll be showing pics of random places in Slovenia, but we'll try to focus on hidden details of the country most tourists don't get to see.

Zlati grič Golf Course, Slovenske Konjice

Zlati grič is a 9-hole golf course in Škalce, a village on the outskirts of Slovenske Konjice, in Styria. The company Zlati grič also has a winery producing many fine wines from the grapes of the vineyards that surround the golf course. They also have a restaurant and an interesting apartment house.

Slovenske Konjice - RTV SLO

Foto: RTV SLO

Prva luknja je v primerjavi s preostalimi igrišči kar zahtevna. Ima par 5, zavija v desno in gre močno v breg. Foto: RTV SLO

Še vedno smo pri prvi luknji. Vidite, da smo mislili resno glede hoje v hrib. Foto: RTV SLO

No, pa smo končno na zelenici prve luknje. Razgled poplača vsak napor je dodatna motivacija odlično igro. Foto: RTV SLO

Foto: RTV SLO

That shot makes my eyes hurt. Somebody needs to tell them to not screw around with the saturation tool on Photoshop

Ahahaha, I know, some of the photoshopping is really bad. But at least you can tell that it's a photoshop.. Some pics are photoshopped but are so good that when you get there you're disappointed that it's not as good as in the pic..

This is a church in Črna vas (Black village) in the ljubljansko barje (ljubljana marshes) area, built by Jo×e Plečnik.

Quote:
The Church of St. Michael in the Marshes, built by Jo×e Plečnik between 1937 and 1940, belongs among the architect's most original creations. It combines the features of Greek temples with those of the churches typical of the Slovenian region of Kras (an open belfry forming a part of the front fašade). Due to the marshy ground, the church is built on piles. Its structure is partly made of wood. An interestingly designed stairway leads to the doorway in the church's slim bell tower, which is also pierced with several other openings. The general design of the church was derived from Plečnik's design of the National and University Library; like the library's reading room, the church's nave lies crosswise to the long stairway leading to it.

The interior of the church, which is slightly reminiscent of Japanese Shinto temples, was for cost saving reasons built with affordable materials. The four supporting pillars, painted with geometric designs, were made from concrete sewer pipes. All the other elements of the interior were made of wood (donated by peasants from the nearby villages), due to which the church has a warm and cosy feeling to it. Particularly interesting are the altar and the chancel. The latter was designed on the model of wooden balconies typical of traditional Slovenian farmhouses.

The building of St. Michael's in the Marshes was a project which in one way or another involved Plečnik's entire family: his nephew Karel Matkovič was the local priest who commissioned the building, the architect's brother Andrej funded most of the construction costs, and the money left behind by Plečnik's deceased brother Janez was later used to settle the remaining debts.

The Bohinj railway is a railway in Slovenia extending into Italy. It connects Jesenice in Slovenia with Gorizia in Italy through the Julian Alps. It was built by Austria-Hungary in 1904 as a strategic railway to the port of Trieste. During the first world war, it carried the majority of Austrian military supplies to the Isonzo front.

Due to the new political divisions of Europe and the dissolution of Austria-Hungary, the railway decreased in importance more and more until the end of the 20th century. However, the entry of Slovenia in the European Union has resulted in new perspectives for the railway as a convenient passenger and goods route from Central and Eastern Europe to the port of Trieste.

Distinctive features of the railway are the 6339m long "Bohinj tunnel" under the 1498m high Kobla mountain, and the "Salcano bridge" with its 85m wide arch.

Well i guess it won't stay "Hidden" for long..
