Hotel Khalifa | 3 fl | ALWAAB | COM

I found this Hotel while digging in the internet (the news seems to be one year old) ... not sure if it is already there in the forum (I tried to search)...

Hotel Name : Hotel Khalifa
Rooms: 150 rooms
Place: ??
Opening: Mid 2007

...To design his new 150-room property in Doha, Qatar, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Thani, a member of the Qatari Royal Family has chosen J/Brice Design International of Boston. The $30-million-dollar project is slated to open in mid-2007.The Hotel Khalifa will feature a French chateau motif that will counter the international architectural style that dominates the city. The lobby will boast a grand stairway and four-story atrium with a water feature. In addition to 150 guestrooms, the four-story red brick, granite and yellow ochre stucco structure will include four duplex super-suites with such amenities as an Olympic-size pool, luxury spa and fitness center, and ballroom-conference space with state of the art audio-visual equipment...

I think this was posted before as a motel not a hotel, with a bit different looks...
If it's going to be a motel then there's no way in hell you're ever gonna find a Z8 there!

This project is still alive!

Qatar invests in future as a tourism hub
Published: Sunday, 6 May, 2007, 08:18 AM Doha Time

QATAR aims to become a destination for medical tourism and position Doha as a luxury short-stay leisure and business travel destination, according to international strategic futures think-tank, Global Futures & Foresight (GFF).
Qatar’s plans in this regard are part of its strategy to excel in niche tourism and make the sector economically sustainable, said GFF, which is undertaking a three-stage study on the Middle East’s tourism and travel industry.
The study, ‘Vision to 2020’, sponsored by Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE), organisers of Arabian Travel Market 2007, the region’s premier travel and tourism event, states Qatar is investing $15bn in hotels, museums and theme parks.
“Qatar aims to triple tourist arrivals per year to 1.4mn by 2010 and increase average stay from 1.5 to four days,” GFF’s joint head David Smith explained.
Qatar is to have 40 new hotels by 2009, including the Hotel Khalifa a palatial building designed to look like a French chateau, and a 360-room environmentally friendly hotel in Dafna.
“The $2.5bn ‘Pearl’ man-made island development will include three deluxe hotels, while the first phase of the $2.5bn New Doha international Airport, will open in 2009 to accept 12mn passengers. By 2015 a $5.5bn extension will increase the airport’s capacity to 50mn passengers,” Smith pointed out.
Qatar Airways is to take delivery of the first of its four A380 aircraft in 2009 and is planning to buy 80 Airbus A350XWB wide bodied jets.
The report was unveiled at Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2007 in Dubai, featuring some 2,600 exhibitors from 64 countries.
The Qatar Tourism Authority was among some 61 official bodies present at ATM, held for the 14th consecutive year, and concluded on Friday.
‘Vision to 2020’, covering Bahrain, Egypt, Iran, Jordan Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Turkey, UAE and Yemen, is the first of three reports sponsored by RTE.
The second, including comprehensive industry data, will be revealed at the World Travel Market in London this November and the final study - ‘A Response from the Region’ - containing detailed findings from regional industry leaders - will be presented at Arabian Travel Market 2008.

Opening 2007? Doubtful. Surely someone would have spotted this being built?

Where do we think this would be built???
