Updates from Rotherham:

Consultation opens on final development sites
Rotherham Business News 14/10/14

Consultation has begun on the proposed sites that will form Rotherham's planning blueprint for the next 15 years where 235 hectares of land will be needed over the period to meet the broad requirements of 12 - 15,000 additional jobs.
http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2014/10/new...-on-final.html

I've picked out a few case studies about what the local plan means for the town centre, Todwick, Maltby and Bassingthorpe:

Maltby's future as energy and waste site - http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2014/10/new...nergy-and.html
New Tesco prompts planners to shift Rotherham's retail centre - http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2014/10/new...anners-to.html
New plan outlines Todwick North development - http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2014/10/new...velopment.html
Construction at Bassingthorpe could start in 2016 - http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2014/10/new...ingthorpe.html

Also, the owners of Wentworth Woodhouse have decided to put the Grade 1 listed mansion up for sale. A charitable trust is raising money to acquire it for £7m and have outlined plans for its future.

sadly another one of my miserable SSC New Year predictions for 2014 final confirmed as coming to fruition -albeit in 2015. Visions of China - dead in the water.

Quick update on the town centre:

The council is putting together a capital finance strategy to assess projects that require significant financial investment, with a town centre cinema expected to be put forward.

Other potential projects include a university campus and a redevelopment of the markets.
http://www.rothbiz.co.uk/2015/07/new...o-pay-for.html

Also Westgate Chambers, which contains buildings originally constructed in 1794 by local architect, John Platt as a residence for himself, is being sold off for residential with commercial underneath.

Just out of curiosity-anyone know what's happening to it? Thanks.

The logical solution would be for the Titans to move in but that hasn't happened. It's still there, anyway

What condition is the pitch in? For that matter, what condition is the majority of the stadium in? I've never been to Millmoor but from what I know it was never in the best of shape

This is by far the best thing that could ever happen to that site; I am utterly delighted.

Gulliver's are the perfect people to own and develop this site, and to create a major attraction for the city region. It could and should be an amazing catalyst for tourism in the region. I can't imagine anyone else setting up anything like a theme-park around here, so this is just fantastic.

Listening to the woman representing Gulliver's on Radio Sheffield this morning, it does indeed sound like they are going to develop this site as their major location, copying their best bits from all their other 3 existing locations. It also sounds like the Matlock location is going to be changed into something of a new concept. It's a win-win for them.

The fact that they have the money to develop the site immediately, and don't require outside investment is exciting too!

I guess the only real fly in the ointment is that HS2 is due to go down the western boundary of the site, but I guess they already know that and aren't put off by it.

As I said, this really should be the catalyst for that whole area. Rother Valley Country Park should benefit massively for a start. It'll also be pretty major for Sheffield's tourism policy; if only the tram could connect to the site! Gulliver's might also be a great benefit to the Chesterfield Canal restoration, which will go through Rother Valley.

I look forward to this development breaking ground in the new year!

Agreed, excellent news. BBC article here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-34200100

I also agree that a tram extension to this, should it all come to fruition, would be a logical and highly useful undertaking. A lot of these 'lets call them center parcs style' sites promote a "car-free" holiday, so a direct public transport link would fit in with that ethos, reducing the number of cars on the site.

Or a Tram-Train?

Sounds promising. Not quite on the scale of the original YES! and Visions of China projects (at least initially) but Gulliver's have a proven track-record

Isn't there a freight rail line that currently passes by that site?
