Just realized, after a certain point, it might be difficult to track the construction, since it's so high up.

Just curious...Can anoyone give me a simple answer. I always wondered how do cranes function on construction of super tall buildings? how can you bring up massive amounts of building material from ground level up when the height of the building exceeds crane height.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought they did some secondary stage material lifting on the Burj. Of course even the spire was hoisted from the ground but it all depends on where material is needed. Generally though, while buildings are indeed tall, I don't think we've hit a crane limit for lifting yet. Maybe one day, Crane #1 can lift material from ground to 1,000 meters to a staging point, then Crane #2 on the tower core can lift from there into final position.

Depending on how buildings continue to climb, I could see this becoming an issue within 50-100 years, if not before that. All depends on how much weight is carried by the cables and what the crane can handle. Maybe use an "Ultrarope" style approach but for crane hoisting too? Who knows.

The BK cranes had hoist cables of 600 m., hence one crane was installed halfway up when the tower reached 600 m.

At KT, the hoist cable of the crane that goes all to the top, has a cable of 800 m., I have read somewhere (site of Liebherr or Wolfkran).
