Do you like the Marina City balcony lightings

Typical image of Marina City (taken from Mike Warot's blog) where you can see some people have decorated their balcony with colourful lighting. What's your say about these?

I used to live in an apartment building which had a view of Marina City in the 70's. I always enjoyed the balcony holiday lights, and the channel 7 weather antenna. However, that was when it was still rental and most of the residents participated in having the "same" lights put on their balcony by the building managment.

Now that the lights reflect inconsistent resident participation and variety, the lights definitely do not have awe and dazzle of yesteryears.

Also, the crown of LED lights on the tops of the buildings is cold blue!

I'm not a fan of the completely-random balcony lights, but since these seem to be the only buildings doing it year-round, I try to see it as a 'charm' particular to these towers. And I certainly don't like the LEDs on the top. Rather see floodlights pointing up the mechanical penthouses.

i like the messy look of the random lighting patterns. it makes the towers look lived in.

i myself just put up a simple tree on my balcony for the holiday season, but maybe i should invest in some balcony railing lighting for year round celebration. here's a pic of the tree out on my balcony as seen from inside my unit:

Love em. It gives the building, and the area a lot of character. Thats something you can never have to much of.

Interesting poll results so far. I would have expected more people to dislike it, or maybe that's just because I am from a country that like to think it's an organized one. I'll post the same poll in the Dutch forums, see what happens. I do like it by the way, but that's only because it's real easy for me to pinpoint my own apartment from the streets.

Eh. It doesn't really bother me that some condo owners put up lights on their balconies. Still, it could look so much better during the holidays of the condo association tried to coordinate it. But, that's likely a bigger headache than its worth.
