intu Eldon Square - 13th October 2015

A few changes in intu Eldon Square when I wandered through yesterday, 13th October 2015:

Boards now up on this unit next to O2 in Eldon Way:

As previously mentioned by Tom 15, Ratchet are now open in the former Fenwick shop unit, who oddly enough have re-opened next door.

boutique Goldsmiths shortly to open up on Blackettbridge in the former Phones 4U unit - from the intu Eldon Square web site:

'boutique. Goldsmiths is an innovative concept store for fashion jewellery and watches, brought to us by Goldsmiths, the UK’s largest quality high street jeweller. boutique. Goldsmiths is a landmark retail venture that challenges every existing paradigm in the jewellery sector - embracing cutting edge products and drawing upon fashion retail principles to offer customers a unique shopping experience.'

Cath Kidston store opens at the MetroCentre
15 Oct 2015 By Lisa Hutchinson

North East Christmas shoppers are in for a treat after a new Cath Kidston store opened in the MetroCentre. Located on the lower mall of the Red Quadrant in the centre, the store is 3,150 sq ft and is selling home, fashion, accessories and childrenswear. The opening of the new shop on October 15, 2015, follows the huge success of the Cath Kidston pop up Christmas shop last year.

Alex Brown, Metrocentre store manager, said: “We are delighted to bring ‘The Home of Modern Vintage’ to the Metrocentre, opening our new store to the public today. To mark the opening of the store we are offering customers spending over £40 the chance to have a lucky dip with our vintage grab machine. Prizes include luxury toiletry sets and our signature printed tea towels. We also have goodie bags for the first 100 customers to the new store.”

Trendy trainer business Soleheaven opens new shop in Newcastle city centre
11 Oct 2015 By Tom Keighley

Trainer entrepreneur Dale Parr has moved his Soleheaven shop to new premises in Newcastle city centre, creating six jobs. The former investment banker and sneaker lover, who launched the online business in 2009 following a trip to New York, has funded the move from Hoults Yard to high street premises on Old Eldon Square. (6 Old Eldon Square)

Mr Parr has promised to bring top international brands such as Nike, King Apparel and to the site which overlooks the war memorial on Old Eldon Square. He said: “Going head to head with the high street is a big step but I thought the time was right to move into the centre of town. There hasn’t been a sneaker store like ours in the city and it seemed mad that we were tucked away in Hoults Yard.

Barrhead Travel reveals location of first branded store in England
By Hollie-Rae Merrick | 12 October 2015 at 09.41 GMT

Barrhead Travel has revealed its first English store will open in Newcastle. The Scottish agency chain is investing £1m in the store in the intu Eldon Square Shopping Centre in Newcastle. The ‘superstore’, which will be 1,500 sq ft, will employ 20 people. Barrhead said the flagship store would be located at the busiest entrance of the shopping centre which has a footfall of around 37 million people a year.

Barrhead Travel currently supports franchise branches trading independently in the northeast but the Newcastle store will be the first distinct branded store in the area. The new store is part of the company’s ambitious plans for expansion across the UK, which were unveiled at the start of the year.

Sounds like this unit - close to the Northumberland Street entrance:

Was in the Metrocentre today, and a couple of things to note:

Fenwick is now open in the Platinum Mall, next to the Disney Shop. (where I thought Carraig Donn would open)

Several stores have ''under offer'' stickers on them, and the following stood out to me:

-The old Big Lukes, McDonalds and Est... restaurants in the Blue Mall.
-The old River Island store in the red mall (would be perfect for Gap/Banana Republic or Forever 21)
-The large unit near Primark on the Upper Blue Mall.

Also, there is a Jamie Oliver Outlet Store open next to Jacamo & Simply Be (near Debenhams), which I've never noticed. Looks pretty dire inside.

I had the displeasure of being there on Friday evening (I would have rather been in the pub), I noticed there was a "pop-up" BMW garage showing off some of their electric cars.

There are no Tigers at all in the North of England yet (nearest are in Scotland or the Midlands), so this would be great news if confirmed!

Why does the Eldon Square map have Lipsy where Next should be? Have I missed something?

Just a rubbish, lazy map. It also claims there's an additional branch of Blue Inc next to Burtons...
