#Completed: Commonwealth Law Courts

The new Commonwealth Law Courts are currently under construction in Adelaide.

The complex is been built at the old Police HQ site on the corner of Angas Street and Victoria Square.

The $76 Million building will rise to a height of 48m and comprise 12 stories.

Work began last year with the demolition of the 11 storey (40m) Police HQ; and currently the government has appointed a builder and work on the structure will begin next month.

The building will be complete in early 2004.

I was passing the site today and I noticed that the builder that has been appointed to build the courts is Hansen Yuncken.

Damn, you should have taken a camera. Whenever I pass the billboard located on the site, I always forget to take a picture of the rendering on it.

Have you seen that rendering yet?

AG - Yeah I've seen the rendering, which I've got to admit is more attractive than my picture!
I don't have a digital camara, so it seems we have a job for Adam!

Okay, Adam, we have a job for you.

Here is your mission:

Take a photo of the rendering on the billboard at the construction site and take a picture of the construction site from wherever possible.

Hopefully Adam will see this.

Time to wake this thread up!

I passed the site just over an hour ago and the scaffolding is starting to go up. Half the road is blocked off. Talking to a worker, we can expect to see a crane there early in the new year. Another tidbit, I asked him if Hansen had anything else in the pipeline, he just smiled and said to be patient - things will be popping up very soon. He wouldn't say anything else - prick!

They always do this with projects and developments! They always reveal them at the last minute before they start construction.

I guess that can be a good thing in a way, seeing that the anti-progress people won't notice it until it starts construction.

Very good Pikey!

I was reading an article in the Advertiser, about the lack of quality office space in the city.

There was 1 sentence that was very encouraging, where it stated that in 18 months commercial property developers would start to come into the Adelaide market.

But AG, if the development complies with the council guidelines, the anti-progress people can't do anything about it!

Adam - I don't know why you didn't want to take that photo?

As you can see the site is more than just a pile of dirt, in fact you can see that this photo is very historic and deserves to go on SS.com.

All I had ever seen of the site before yesterday was the fence. From the square, all you see is a fence and a billboard.

Yesterday, I noticed a pathway that leads along the side of the Magistrates Court that ends up higher than the fence, meaning you can see in.

I found this press release from the government regarding the new Commonwealth Law Courts:

ATTORNEY-GENERALTHE HON. DARYL WILLIAMS AM QC MP MINISTER FOR FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATIONSENATOR THE HON. NICK MINCHIN
NEWS RELEASE
15 November 2002 40/2002

South Australian firm to build new Adelaide Law Courts

South Australian construction company, Hansen Yunken Pty Ltd, has been selected to construct the new Commonwealth Law Courts in Adelaide, the Minister for Finance and Administration, Senator Nick Minchin, and Attorney-General, Daryl Williams, announced today.
This $80 million project will house the High Court, Federal Court, Family Court and Federal Magistrates Service in a new building on the old South Australian Police Headquarters site on Victoria Square.
Construction work will begin in early December 2002, generating over 1,000 full-time jobs, and is due to be completed in July 2004.
Hansen Yunken have extensive experience in construction in South Australia, including projects such as the National Wine Centre, the Radisson Playford Hotel, Adelaide Airport and Adelaide Central Plaza. The company was selected through an open tender process.
"Moving all these operations into a central, purpose-built complex will make the courts more efficient and accessible to South Australians," Mr Williams said.
“I am pleased that the best candidate for the job is a South Australian firm. This project is a win for South Australian court users and staff and a win for the South Australian economy,” Senator Minchin concluded.

I also found this picture, I think it's the only complete colour photo on this forum.

A construction pic! Thanks AdamTheDuck!

They have only worked on the foundation so far.

I have another pic from ACC of the green section of the building, but can't seem to find it.

EDIT: The picture has been removed by me to help AdamTheDuck save space.
