ŁÓDŹ | New City Center | U/C

Finally a thread has been opened about this amazing city. Shocking that the revitalization of this city has been so far overlooked. Oh well better late than never.

We visited this city for the first time 5 years ago when the new central train station was a hole in the ground, still loved how many original 19th and 20th buildings this city has, massive wholesale destruction in Poland during WWII luckily bypassed Lodz. It probably also has the most surviving industrial buildings from the 1800's on the continent that are being retrofitted for offices, loft, high tech incubators etc. It has a really interesting vibe, hope to see lots more projects posted.

November 15th BIE http://www.bie-paris.org/site/en/ is going to decide who will organize EXPO 2022.

The exhibition will be organized in the New City Center - gentrified XIX century post-industrial district:

From time to time flame wars appear on the Polish SSC section in the threads about Łódź concerning whether there should be skyscrapers in Łódź or not

Why not? Because there is still a lot of unoccupied areas in the city center, and there is simply no need to go up when the city has space to spread "horizontally". For example, this exact area which is gonna be the "new city center".

Another obstacle, for the region of the city where the skyscrapers would be most desired, is that you can't go too high over there because it would interrupt the operation of the airport, which is quite close to the city center (and this is one of the advantages of Łódź).

Also not long ago Łódź used to be the second city in Poland after Warsaw, it suffered strong depopulation after the collapse of cotton industry in the '90, demand for office space is still not too strong I guess. Altough there are some high-rises in the center from the communist times and new hotel Hampot by Hilton should be pretty high:

That's true. BTW the tram hub (right down on visual) is ready. People in Łódź call it "the Unicorn". Let's recall - unicorn tears are cure for every disease .
