Here are some photos of the future LRT System of Belgrade with photos of the varos kapia station from autside and station akademija in Knez mihajlova street. And a plan of whole sistem in the city.8 stations are underground and varos kapia is semi underground. 37% of the line is underground.

What do you think about the Varos kapija station? it's the most expensive and original station of the line with her concrete arcs.
^^ I dont know what to say, this picture of Varos kapija station is just very small :) Is it all allready planned how do stations will look like ??
I hope this project will be implemented. Metro, light rail and trams are my little obsession. :) How big are chances for realization?
Well pretty big chances. The project is well under way and the construction should start next year or 2007. I am not sure. The 8 underground stations in the city center will be constructed last and it will connect two sections - Novi Beograd one and Ustanicka-Bulevar section.
Considering it's size Belgrade obviously needs partly underground rail system. I still don't understand why in relatively prosperous country like former Yugoslavia its capital and the biggest city hasn't got any metro system. :dunno:
^^
Because our "experts" of 1970s thought Belgrade doesn`t need metro so they gave us tram system. Belgrade could afford three lines of deep metro back then. There was a even a good plan. :bash: Then Milosevic spent millions on single station :sleepy: what a lunatic he was. And now have to satisfy with this.
^^
But Your tram system also isn't in a good condition from what I know.
no it is not in good condition, it is in catastrophal condition :D

Well so so. They want to completely reconstruct it because it's already 30 years old. But trams are runing. They are ugly but still serving well (they were all refabricated in 2004 except of those Basel ones which are very old and they shake the whole street when they pass. But we couldn`t reject a gift)

You mean infrastructure? Like tram gauge? Well yeah but it's planed to be completely reconstructed. :)
I can affirm that the station Varos kapija will be like th picture because they make a rendering inside and outside and she look pretty big. An other problem with the trams in Belgrade is that they are 1m tracks instead of 1,435m that is for the metro so they should change all tracks in the city and buy new trams Its pretty good for Belgrade's LRT that there are 3 underground sections that totalize 37% of the 13 km.
I'e heard that the underground sections of the metro was also planned to become sections for real metro later. Does anyone can confirm this information or if somebody knows somethink about that.
Great project! Belgrade really is in a need of a metro. I hope they'll start building it soon.

It would be nice to see some Belgrade tram thread. :)

I doubt that they ever do this, it would be very expensive to regauge all tram network, many routes should be changed : I doubt that the part in Kalemegdan facing french embassy, the route of the 7 in Resavska could afford double 1435 tracks and I don't even speak about the curves. The problem is that the lines are very old, from the time when streetcars were very short and narrow.
IMHO it would be better to keep the tramway network as is, just change the tracks and cars and to build an entirely new metro network as intended.

Uh better not. They are ugly like I said :D but very robust Czech made trams.

Better make a Zagreb tram thread. It is really a tram city. Now they are introducing lowfloor trams made in Croatia.

I can't confirm anything but I've heard too that they intend to put progressively all this first line under ground, part by part.
The intention is to have a real metro in a not so distant future that's why I'm doubtful about the choice of the cars :

:|
A new source of overcrowdings, IMHO  Anyway, will be a perv paradise :naughty:

^^ I am pretty sure this car is just used for the demonstration. Anyway there are some tracks that Metrocars and Tramcars can share

:cheers2:

I understand that the model is shown pro forma but what bothers me is that they've chosen a tramway-style vehicle and not a metro-style.

Yup, AFAIK metric tramway route on Kralja Aleksandra will be kept and they just want to make it dual-gauge :
