Nice!
Although, I think people may be pronouncing the name wrong with that spelling. They probably think it's sounds like "Donek". I've always seen it spelled "Donetsk".

And I always thought, that Doneck is a dull, concrete, industrial city.

I believe it's an actor from Doneцk. I mean, a statue of him :)

It's not a robot, no.

Nice compilation, Stas.
I really like that charcoal/grey church with the clock.
Very similar in style to Nilova Pustyn' in Tver' Region.
Do you know when it was built?

I have no idea when it was built. I assume that it's recent though.

Do you have a picture of that similar church in Tver'?

I visited Donetsk last year. City is improving :) Man with pole vault is Sergei Bubka (world champion and world record holder), he is from Donetsk.

Maris, did you take photos while in Donetsk? And what were some improvements you saw?
Unfortunately, no.

Donetsk is very young city, and it starts to move away from Soviet grim. Artiom street (Artem) looks OK.

It's a monastery called Nilova Pustyn' .
I'm sure you've seen it before, but here is a link anyway http://www.loc.gov/exhibits/empire/
It's photo is right on the front page.
btw, all photos on the site were made in 19th century and they are in colour not b/w!

Bubka is alive yes :D

Elrbus, yes I remember seeing that, and I've been to that site, it's great :)

Doneck is a young, industrial city. It got formed as a result of mining activity in the area. But has grown in a large city remarkably fast, expecting to open it's own subway system within a few years.
