Belgrade to get new China flight

The Serbian Minister for Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlović, has said that flights from Belgrade to a second destination in China and a city in Canada will be announced later this year. Although the Minister did not elaborate in further detail, it follows on from similar statements made by the Chinese Ambassador to Serbia, Li Manchang, who confirmed that talks are underway for the introduction of flights between Shanghai and Belgrade, after Hainan Airlines established services from Beijing to the Serbian capital via Prague last September.

Air China’s flight hours cut by state regulator and two pilots’ licences revoked after plane’s 25,000-foot plunge in vaping fiasco
Measures come under a string of sanctions imposed on airline following episode in which oxygen masks were deployed mid-flight in emergency descent

China’s aviation regulator has cut Air China’s flight hours and revoked the licences of two pilots after a vaping incident in the cockpit triggered an emergency descent last week.

In a string of sanctions imposed on the country’s flag carrier, Air China will be forced to reduce the flight hours on its Boeing 737 fleet by 10 per cent, undergo a three-month safety review and be fined for the incident.

The decision was made by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC), according to state television and an internal note obtained by the Post.

On Friday, Air China said it would fire the pilots of flight CA106 from Hong Kong to Dalian. On July 10, the plane dropped 25,000 feet (7,620 metres) in 10 minutes as it was travelling between Shantou and Xiamen. It climbed from an altitude of 10,000 feet to 26,000 feet and arrived safely at its destination. No injuries were reported and the aircraft was not damaged.

The incident was caused by an error from one of three pilots, who was smoking an e-cigarette in the cockpit. Investigations showed he tried to turn off the circulation fan to prevent smoke from reaching the cabin, but mistakenly switched off the air conditioning system, resulting in insufficient oxygen in the cabin which caused the oxygen masks to deploy.

The plane then went into an emergency descent.

Both the captain and first officer had their commercial pilot licences revoked, according to the note. Of the two, it was unclear who had smoked the e-cigarette or mishandled the emergency descent by resuming the flight to Dalian.

Protocol dictates pilots should land a plane once oxygen masks have been deployed, because if another emergency occurs later in the flight, there would be insufficient supplies for passengers and crew.

Paris police: Mix-up behind the return of Air China plane
Associated Press Excerpt

An Air China flight to Beijing returned to Paris on Thursday after an airline employee misunderstood a passenger who was calling on the phone and thought he was reporting a bomb on the plane, Paris airport police said.

China's official Xinhua News Agency initially reported that the plane turned back because of "suspected terrorist information." Not so, according to an official with the airport police prefecture, the state body that oversees security at the city's airports.

The passenger, speaking in English, called Air China to say he was stuck behind police lines that were set up at Charles de Gaulle Airport's Terminal 1 while officers investigated an abandoned package.

"The company thought it was a bomb alert" for the plane, the official said. "It was an error of comprehension."

The official did not identify the passenger or the airline employee. He was not authorized to speak publicly.

Flight CA876 returned to Charles de Gaulle and was separated from other aircraft for an inspection. It was scheduled to take off again at 9 pm, the official said. The plane had been in the air nearly 40 minutes before heading back, according to the local airport authority.

Beijing-Macao flight makes emergency landing in Shenzhen

An Airbus A320 operated by Capital Airlines JD5759 from Beijing to Macao on Tuesday diverted to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport after failing to land as planned in Macao amid an extreme wind change in that area.

Five were slightly injured and all on board were evacuated safely, according to a statement issued by Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.

According to a report by Chinese-language newspaper Xinmin Evening News, one of the landing gear was damaged and possibly drawn into one of the plane’s two engines when the flight was trying to land at the Macao International Airport.

Apart from the broken engine, the plane’s primary communication and navigation systems also failed. The captain sent a mayday call using the standby equipment. The plane successfully made an emergency landing at the Shenzhen airport at 11:58 am. All 157 passengers and nine crew members were safely evacuated.

In a preliminary assessment, the crew members thought wind shear may have been a factor when the plane was landing in Macao.

HNA affiliate Hainan Airlines offers to pay 12 percent for 2-yr dollar bonds
Excerpt

HONG KONG, Oct 24 (Reuters) - HNA-affiliated Hainan Airlines - China’s fourth-largest carrier - is offering to pay 12 percent interest to borrow in U.S. dollars in a sign of the financing strains felt by units of the indebted Chinese conglomerate.

The deal comes as HNA Group is in the process of selling some $20 billion of assets, according to Reuters calculations and media reports, following a $50 billion acquisition spree.

The conglomerate, whose holdings at its peak ranged from hotels to the largest single stake in Germany’s Deutsche Bank , is seeking to focus more closely on its core businesses including airlines.

Hainan Airlines and HNA Group did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Exclusive: 2-DEER: China's HNA Group seeks buyer for $300 million 'Dream Jet' - sources
Excerpt

(Reuters) - Cash-strapped Chinese conglomerate HNA Group has put up for sale its luxurious $300-million-plus corporate “Dream Jet” that sports a “seven-star” hotel-style cabin, say six aviation industry sources familiar with the matter.

The 40-seat Boeing (BA.N) 787 jet with registration “2-DEER”, used for charters as well as by top HNA officials, recently took Cambodian president Hun Sen to the U.N. General Assembly in New York and flew between Brazzaville, capital of the Republic of Congo, and Beijing, on dates coinciding with a visit to China by President Denis Sassou Nguesso.

Under pressure from Beijing, aviation-to-hotels group HNA has in 2018 sold real estate, stakes in overseas companies and aviation-related assets after a $50-billion acquisition spree in recent years.

One of the industry sources said HNA was attempting to sell the fleet in its wholly-owned private Deer Jet division and then shut it down.

When did China start using letters in their registrations?
That is a very special case as all Chinese aircraft registrations start with B, not 2. And aircraft registered in the Hong Kong SAR (Cathay Pacific, HK Express, etc.) and Macau SAR (Air Macau) have letters in their registrations instead of numbers.

I like Air China but I wish they would update their paint scheme. it looks right out of the cold war era.
Understandable. But you have to petition the Chinese government for that as it owns and operates the airline.

Thank for the reply but I was referring to having letters instead of numbers at the end, I should have been clearer.

example B-206J is a 9 Air 737-8
