Also, I wonder if Shaheen will use its A330s to fly long-haul destinations to Southeast and East Asia where the economies are developing very fast, as well as to Europe to compete with PIA? And will the airline order more of that aircraft type to spread its wings further?
A330's are mostly used on middle eastern routes so far. They did announce service to Bangkok, don't know what happened.

^^ Interesting. What's the seating configuration, and what special features are on board the A330 (e.g. PTV, AVOD, lie-flat seats, AC power plugs)?

Yeah i know what PK stands for, but I couldnt find the official PIA facebook page when searching ON facebook!

All i got were a few FB groups, and couldnt tell what is official or not.

Google search and THEN you find the FB page for PIA. Very strange. And PIA doesnt have the FB page listed on their website either! Heres the official FB page for PIA

As for bringing back the PIA classic icon in Gold, love that! Am a big fan of that logo and was hoping for a return to the Gold look. I guess another livery change is now imminent!

P.S. I think PIA has done too many livery changes in a rather short period, with all the new tails and changing body paint styles. They need to stick to one, and then spend the money elsewhere!

^^ PK is the airline code for Pakistan International Airlines. ;)

And by the way, the new logo and streak for PIA looks really promising indeed... much simpler, yet much smarter! Hopefully, with a new chapter in the airline's history, hopefully, it will become a stronger carrier for South Asia and it will become a more reputable flag carrier in the years to come.

^^ Maybe the new logo for PIA reflects the fact that it is on its way to privatization, and that it'll mean a brand new day is coming for Pakistan's flag carrier.

Official PIA Rebranding announcement

I would have toned down the rhetoric and boastfulness in this letter, but well, that's how we Pakistanis like to talk, aka Pharrain Marna (پھڑیں مارنا)! The letter could be more humble, more professional and well. And "Fellow Countrymen"?? Are you General P. Musharaf?! Obviously the letter is addressed to the employees and this is now way of writing official correspondence!

BTW, come out "unscathed"? You are scathed and you are being Privatized now PIA! That is getting scathed in a way!

Too bad they are still sticking with "Great People to Fly With" with the swoosh under the word FLY. I really looks unprofessional and the slogan these days is a joke!

Here it is from the Chairman Pakistan International Airlines Mr. Muhammad Ali Gardezi where the re-brand is clearly announced.

I don't have a lot of info on them. Their a330's offer economy and business and they don't have any type of IFE.

PIA Flights for Mashhad from February 25
According to news report on following link, PIA is starting flights from Lahore to Mashhad via Quetta on February 25.

Initially it will be twice-a-week service on every Tuesday and Saturday.

The flight will offer seating capacity for 118 passengers. Apparently it means PIA will use its Boeing 737-300 aircraft for these flights.

PIA all set to get EU certification

* Prepares to start Lahore-Mashad flights soon
KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) gets ready for European Union certification and acquisition of ATR Simulator.
It has prepared to start flights to Mashad (Iran) from Lahore and has revised the policy for award of GSAs through Board of Directors (BOD).
These decisions were taken at PIA’s 354th Board of Directors meeting held here at PIA Head Quarters, a PIA statement said here on Sunday.
Presided by Secretary Aviation and Chairman PIA Syed Muhamamd Ali Gardezi, the meeting also attended by Aslam Khaliq, Azam Saigol, Ghiasuddin Ahmed, Atif Bajwa, Nazir Malik, Waqar Yusuf, the Managing Director PIA.
The meeting decided that PIA will acquire revalidation of European Union Safety Agency (EUSA) certification by the end of March 2014 before the new aircraft on dry lease are inducted in PIA fleet.
This is an essential requirement for the airline to keep its operation in the Western world and also imperative to obtain EASA-145. Otherwise, the new aircrafts will have to be sent abroad for inspection and maintenance checks which certainly become very expensive putting an extrad financial burden. However, CAA will conduct its inspections prior to that.
The board approved acquisition of Simulator for the ATR aircraft which will not only save huge expenses being incurred on its pilots while getting training from abroad but will pave way for revenue generation through trainings to other airlines’ staff ; foreign as well as local.
For having more transparency in its sales, it has been decided that in future the award of GSAs will be approved through BOD approval.
As per Prime Minister’s directives , the PIA board also reviewed airlines’ preparation for launching of flights to Mashad (Iran) and gave its consent. PIA’s twice a week operation/flights to Mashad will be from Lahore via Quetta from February 25, 2014.
Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Aviation, Shujaat Azeem gave a detailed briefing to the Board on the revival plan for PIA.
Shujaat Azeem also inspected the maintenance facility of other airlines at Karachi Airport.

^^ Looks interesting that PK will lease an A320 from CSA Czech Airlines... Up to how long will that aircraft be leased, and will the airline do any major modifications for that leased aircraft over time?

This aircraft won't be in Pakistan for a long time therefore no major modifications will be necessary. PIA signed lease agreement with Qatar airways for 8 320's which will arrive in June, this aircraft will do the job till those 320's arrive in PK's livery.

Interesting... what would be the seating configuration of the 8 A320s to be leased out from QR? And for how long will those aircraft be leased? Plus, will that be a test run on whether PIA will own some A320s in the long run?

Hopefully, PIA could consider getting the A320 with the new sharklets so that it could operate to even more destinations over the long-run...

All planes would have 180 seats, all economy. They will be with leased for 8 years. It's not clear which narrow body planes PIA would go for in the long run, we have to wait a few years to know for sure. Many exciting destinations coming up too.

Sounds good to me. Would you rather get the A320 or the B738 for PIA's short-haul aircraft, and would you put J class on those too if you were to develop their seating configuration?
