Aeroput (Serbian Cyrillic: Aeропут, English translation: "Airway") was an airline and flag carrier of Yugoslavia from 1927 until 1948.

Society for Air traffic AD Aeroput was the first Serbian company for civil air traffic, which was founded on 17 June 1927 as Društvo za Vazdušni Saobraćaj "Aeroput" (Society for Air Traffic "Aeroput"),[1] in the palace of the Adriatic-Danube bank in Belgrade. Aeroput was the national carrier of the Kingdom of SHS, and then the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Aeroput was among the first civilian aircraft carriers, as well as 10th airline company in Europe and 21st in the World. The airline ceased to exist during World War II in Yugoslavia, but was renewed after the war under the new name Jugoslovenski Aero Transport (Yugoslav Airlines - JAT) and still flies today as the Serbian national air carrier under the name Air Serbia.

Air Serbia confirm order for ten Airbus A320neos

By: AVB Staff

Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, today announced that ten next generation A320neo aircraft have been confirmed for its fleet. The deal is valued at more than US$1 billion at list prices.

The deal for Air Serbia, unveiled at the Dubai Air Show, forms part of the major fleet order by its equity partner Etihad Airways, for up to 117 Airbus aircraft.

The A320neo will replace the eight A319 and two A320 aircraft, which are currently being leased in order to progressively retire the aging fleet of 10 Boeing 737-300 aircraft.

The new A320neo aircraft are expected to be delivered between 2018 and 2020.

The Airbus A320neo announcement follows the inaugural flight of the first Air Serbia-liveried A319 from Belgrade to Abu Dhabi on 26 October. The deal for Etihad Airways to acquire 49 per cent of Air Serbia and manage the airline under a five year management contract was announced on 1 August.

Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said the airline had a goal of being a world class airline and had moved rapidly to introduce the more modern Airbus A319s and A320s in order to immediately improve the travelling experience of its guests.

“The new fleet of Airbus A320neo aircraft is a key part of the strategy to re-position the airline as best in class with the most modern and comfortable single aisle aircraft. These aircraft will offer our guests the best cabin in the sky.

“With these A320neo aircraft we will set the benchmark in both product and service excellence as we extend our network to more destinations across Europe,” Mr Kondić said.

The A320neo is offered as an option for the A320 Family and incorporates new, more efficient engines and large "Sharklet" wing tip devices, which together will deliver up to 15 percent in fuel savings. At the end of October 2013, firm orders for the NEO stood at 2,487 from 44 customers, making it the fastest selling commercial airliner ever and underlining its market leadership position.

Mr Sinisa Mali, Adviser for Economy and Finance, Cabinet of the Deputy Prime Minister of the Government of Serbia, the majority shareholder of Air Serbia, said the Government had agreed with Etihad Airways to take the aircraft for Air Serbia.

“This is good for Air Serbia and the people of Serbia, because both have benefited from economies of scale resulting from Etihad Airways’ very significant order with Airbus.

“With the delivery of these ten new aircraft between 2018 and 2020, Air Serbia will be the first airline in the region to have a modern fleet of new Airbus aircraft.

“The last delivery of a new jet to Jat Airways, the former national carrier of Serbia, was in 1988,” he said.

“Furthermore, through our partnership with Etihad Airways, a previous deposit payment made by Jat Airways, has been credited against the pre-delivery payment for these aircraft.

“This is a very good result for the people of Serbia,” said Mr Mali.

Mr Mali said the Government of Serbia’s commitment to these aircraft reflected its commitment to Air Serbia.

“We understand the importance of Air Serbia to the economic development of Serbia. These modern, well equipped aircraft are vital to the development of a reliable, customer-oriented and profitable airline.

“We have already seen a dramatic improvement in look and service quality and this deal will ensure that the airline’s growth plan is secured with the highest quality aircraft,” Mr Mali said.

Since Air Serbia has been operating it has launched a new route from its hub at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla International Airport to Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. It is soon to launch flights to Banja Luka (Bosnia), Bucharest (Romania), Ljubljana (Slovenia) and Prague (Czech Republic). These new flights add to the 25 destinations already served by Air Serbia.

Air Serbia also plans to launch another 12 new routes to 11 countries between January and April 2014, in addition to rescheduling existing operations to optimize connections via its hub in Belgrade.

By June 2014, Air Serbia will serve 39 destinations in 30 countries, offering 73,000 seats on more than 670 flights per week.

Air Serbia's Kiev Launch Postponed
Air Serbia's daily Kiev service, which was scheduled to begin on May 29, has been postponed indefinitely. Dane Kondić, general director of Air Serbia, has cited the unrest as the primary concern. The carrier has offered refunds to all passengers.

Air Serbia has named another one of its aircraft - an Airbus A320. This time after retired basketball player and NBA legend Vlade Divac who becomes the next high profile Serb to have an aircraft named in his honour. The accolade is part of Air Serbia’s “Living Legends” campaign, which pays tribute to a number of Serbia’s renowned men and women whose accomplishments are inspirational and align with the airline’s brand. Serbian tennis sensation Novak Djoković was the first high profile personality to be honoured as a “Living Legend” with an A319 named after him. Vlade Divac was selected for his world renowned sports and humanitarian achievements. His impressive list of career highlights include being named one of the 50 greatest contributors in Euroleague history and becoming one of the first European basketball stars transferred to the NBA. Since 2009, Vlade Divac has been serving as a President of the Olympic Committee of Serbia. Outside of the sports world, Divac has emerged as a leading humanitarian ambassador, launching the “Divac Children Foundation” in 1997, followed by the “Ana and Vlade Divac Foundation” in 2007, providing shelter and assistance for refugees in Serbia and support to children and youth initiatives.

what about liveries? i know that all airbuses are in Air Serbia livery. also, some ATR's are too, but how many of them?
and Boeings - are they going to be phased out, or will be kept for certain time?
Boeings will probably be used for charter flights this summer.
3 ATRs in Air Serbia livery, two on painting.
All 733s in all white, no markings.
Why no Spain? I would think it's a popular tourist destination for Serbs.
I don't doubt that they will launch flights to Spain in the future, but for now JU's plate is more than full. They launched a lot of new destinations in the last six months (Prague, Ljubljana, Abu Dhabi, Banja Luka, Sofia, Budapest, Bucharest) and they increased frequency on all other destinations too. I don't think any further major expansion is really possible before Summer 2015.

Belgrade airport is also a bottleneck for any further growth. A major expansion/overhaul project is required before the airport can handle more than 500.000 passengers per month, which will probably happen this AUG. The baggage handling system needs complete overhaul and upgrade.

Lets push the airport to the limit and see how it goes. BEG is pushing to serve close to 400 000 during this April, but the airport looks very empty from this video. That video clip was taken around 1pm, and that's around the rush hour peak time. Keep in mind, in the future, the widebody birds would reduce the congestion by snagging decent traffic at the certain times. That would eliminate some oversaturated connections being offered by almost every carrier from the Western Europe. I am sure Delta and Emirates would snag some decent loads that would have some serious impact on the rest.
