There is no Party that is in position to take power and as a result a coalition government will need to be formed.
yeah, i got that. im saying fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck... at the headway SNP have made.
Ah.......right. Sorry.
I'm not hardcore opposed to independence, just the SNP. I'll echo Crusty's sentiments.
Not sure why the thread that I provided was not sufficient to discuss this in - evidently it had been infected as it had been started by an Englishman. Well anyway, congratulations should be on its way, I didn't think you had the guts but you Caledonians proved me wrong. Good luck for the 2010 referendum. :)

Lostboy has arrived to start a xenophobic flame war.

I wonder whether it would be wise for the Lib Dems to go into any coalition, as they have been affected by being in government with Labour this time, if they get into bed with the SNP it will start to make them look like power hungry madmen at any price. I think for the lib dems they should keep their powder dry and make the SNP operate a minority administration. That way it will frustrate the SNP agenda and they won't be able to achieve a great deal.

A minority administration worked in Wales, it could work and hopefully show the SNP up for the rag tag bob they are.

It appears that they didn't take too many votes from the mainstream parties, but picked up a lot from the minor parties especially the Scottish socialists. When those voters realise they are going to get a business rate cut for their efforts I doubt they will be pleased.

No I have arrived to congratulate the Scots for a respectable election result and for finally making the right decision.

Either way you look at it "Price" "Mazda" the SNP has had a resounding victory, there are now 50 Seperatist Members of the Scottish Parliament, higher than in 2003 which was in turn higher than 1999. And there is a large stream of right-wing independent supporting Scots who will be happy to vote for a business friendly party. The disillusion with the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party is with the Unionist not with the Conservative part of their name.

Interesting points there Pricemazda. It will be interesting to see how the electorate take to a minority administration. The opposition can't badger everything up because they will be made to look like negativistic spoilers but the SNP will not be able to deliver on many of their key policies. I also look forward to seeing what the SNP are like beyond Salmond, Sturgeon and Swinney.

Really? Why don't you congratualte the overwhelming majority of people who voted for Unionist parties? Do their votes not count?

Well this really is a bit of a guddle... it will be interesting to see what the outcome is. It looks fairly certain that Alex Salmond will be the new first minister though. I'm not a big fan of the smug git but I think he'll make a far more dilligent and charismatic leader for the country than Maconnel.
Personally i'm absolutely delighted to see the end of the Labour party's reign over Scottish politics. I'm not convinced that the Nats are up to the job but I welcome a distancing from the war mongering, sycophantic nazis at Westminster.

An snp i wont name who was up at my door the other day before the elections, i asked several questions and they could not answer any of them other than to steer around and beat about the bush.

People seem to be confused as to what they were voting on, it was for the Scottish Parliament, not the government in Westminster. Jack McConnell was responsible for the Iraq war. You have obviously bought into the myth peddled by the Nationalists that Tony Blair is the first minister of scotland.

Besides the SNP didn't really take many votes from Unionist parties but their increased support came from the Scottish Socialists, overall the Unionist share of the vote remained constant, but the Nationalist vote went up, meaning the extra votes came from somewhere else.

The SNP gained an extra 20 seats, the Greens retained 2 and Margo 1. There is no getting around that this was not a protest vote, or rather if it was it was not a protest against McConnel but against unionism.

Your in denial "Price" "Mazda" stop coming on here and lecturing the Scots as to what they did or did not vote on. They want independence, they despise your pathetic union, and they despise your authoritarian unionist attempts to deny them this.

This was a great victory for freedom lovers everywhere
