FIFA hikes prize money for 2018 World Cup to 400 million dollars

The Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA)'s strategic body approved an increase in the prize money for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia to a total amount of USD 400 million - 12% up from the USD 358 million of the 2014 edition.

The decision came in the FIFA meeting convened today in Kolkata, India, where a number of important elements related to the FIFA World Cup- for both next year's edition in Russia and the future of football's showpiece competition were discussed.

The FIFA Council also ratified the decision of the Bureau of the Council of September 6 to approve the enhanced Bidding Regulations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and appointed the members of the Bid Evaluation Task Force.

The European play-offs gonna be interesting. Imagine a world cup without Italy!!
Sweden is a tough task for Italy. But if they can hold on during the first leg @ Sweden, then the second leg at home will not be a problem!

For Zlatan Ibrahimović and Gianluigi Buffon this will be their last world cup. Hence, both will try hard to be in Russia the next Summer!:)

I cannot think of a world cup without the previous 8 champions. Also, absence of all time favorite runners up like The Netherlands is a big loss.

Big European Play-off today

Four times champion Italy will battle for survival against former World Cup runners up Sweden at Friends Arena in Stockholm tonight (early morning Indian Standard Time).

If Italy can hold to a draw, then they are on course for a berth at San Siro in Milan on 14th.
Sweden won the first leg 1-0. As someone who has supported the Azzurri in all WC and Euros since 1990, my interest in WC 2018 can reduce considerably after Monday.

I firmly believe Italy will be there in Russia as the final leg is in San Siro and the goal deficit is just one. If Sweden creates an upset at San Siro, then Sweden will be the dark horse in the next World Cup. They have rarely any super star players but they are on of the most hard working teams in international football.

My prediction for the final teams that join the other teams in Russia after 2nd leg:

Europe: Italy, Croatia, Denmark, and Switzerland

AFC/CONCAFF: Australia

Oceania/CONEBOL: Peru

A big disaster for Azzuri fans! Italy out of World Cup 2018, as the Sweden jinx proved to be catastrophic yet again.

Four Times World Champions Italy will no be there for the World Cup 2018 in Russia first time since 1958 when Sweden hosted the touranament and were the runners up.

This time Sweden again proved the hurdle as Italy lost to Sweden on aggregate at San Siro in Milan after the second leg playoff ended in 0-0 draw. The first leg in Sweden was won by Sweden by a goal.

It is a disappointing end for veteran Gianluca Buffon as he was aiming to play his 5th World Cup at the age of 40.:eek:hno:

New Zealand’s dream shattered

New Zealand’s World Cup qualification dream has been shattered by a 2-0 loss to Peru. Peru has qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in 36 years.
New Zealand barely threatened the home team in Lima — which is already celebrating one of the countries’ most famous sporting moments.

For Peru and Lima - It was a sleepless night after a wait of 36 years

Just watch this video to know how the city of Lima screamed when the final whistle was blown at the end of Peru Vs Newzealand match at Lima. Peru last reached the World Cup in 1982.

Great demand for World Cup 2018 tickets

Just 24 hours after resuming ticket sales for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, a total of 159,402 tickets (98 per cent of the currently available inventory) have been allocated to fans from around the world through FIFA.com/tickets, with only a few products still available in this sales period.

As a result of the very high demand, virtually the full inventory of tickets was allocated to fans, with only special-access tickets (SATs) left a few hours after the current ticket sales period opened. Details on the eligibility criteria for SATs are available here.

Some 51 per cent of the ticket applications have been placed by Russian fans, with international demand accounting for the remaining 49 per cent. Fans from Argentina, Mexico, the USA, Brazil, Colombia, China, Australia, Germany and India make up the rest of the top ten.

During the current sales period, which will conclude on 28 November, fans will be able to purchase the remaining tickets in real time on FIFA.com/tickets with immediate confirmation of successful applications, subject to availability.

Given the remarkable interest from all over the world, FIFA would like to remind all football fans that FIFA.com/tickets is the only official and legitimate website on which to buy 2018 FIFA World Cup™ tickets. Tickets obtained from any other source (for example, unauthorised intermediaries such as ticket brokers, internet auctions, internet ticket agents, internet or other unofficial ticket exchange platforms) will be automatically cancelled once identified and will not entitle the ticket holder to access the stadium or to any refund or other compensation.

Upon conclusion of the current phase, sales will resume on 5 December after the Final Draw as follows: random selection draw window from 5 December 2017 until 31 January 2018, and first-come, first-served from 13 March 2018 until 3 April 2018. Tickets purchased during sales phases 1 and 2 will be delivered free of charge to fans in the weeks leading up to the tournament, with deliveries planned to start in April/May 2018 (subject to change). Tickets may be purchased by Visa, the official payment services partner of FIFA, or by other accepted payment methods. To find out more about payment methods, please click here.

A total of 622,117 tickets had already been allocated on the conclusion of the first window of sales phase 1 on 12 October 2017.

Pots announced for the Final Draw of World Cup 2018

With Peru completing the line-up of 32 teams for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, we now know the seeding pots for the Final Draw on 1 December.

It was confirmed in September, by the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions, that all teams will be allocated to (eight-team) pots 1 to 4 based on sporting principles. The October 2017 edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be used to allocate all qualified teams to the four pots according to their ranking in descending order, after hosts Russia, who take the top seeding spot.

With those factors in mind, here are the final pots for the Final Draw:

It is worth remembering that the principle of drawing the teams into the groups will remain unchanged. This means that no teams from the same confederation, with the exception of UEFA, which could have up to two teams in the same group, will be drawn into the same group.

The Final Draw will take place on Friday 1 December at Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace. Make sure to follow the event as it unfolds on FIFA.com and across our social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
