KUALA LUMPUR: The Genting Group is investing RM400mil to build a 20th Century Fox theme park, featuring 25 movie-based rides and attractions, that will open in 2016.

Genting Malaysia Berhad chairman Tan Sri Lim Kok Thay said the partnership with 20th Century Fox would make Resorts World Genting one of the world’s top holiday destinations.

He said the investment on the theme park was part of a RM3bil Resort World Genting refurbishment programme, which includes the construction of an additional 1,300 hotel rooms adjoining the First World Hotel.

Jeffrey Godsick, consumer products president of 20th Century Fox, said: “This theme park marks the launch of our global location based entertainment strategy.”

Genting will close its present outdoor theme park on Sept 1 this year for the construction of the new theme park. Last year, Resorts World Genting received about 20.5 million visitors, and the number is expected to rise in 2016 when the new theme park – with rides and attractions based on movies like Ice Age, Life of Pie, Alien, Predator and Night At The Museum – is opened.

Genting expects minimal impact on its business from the temporary closure.

The memorandum of agreement was signed today between Godsick and Datuk Lee Chong Yan, chief operating officer of Genting Malaysia.

Interesting !Why Fox not Universal?
Universal Studios isn't pasar malam lah.......they won't open at such close proximity to another one even if its Genting.

Anyway it is good to have another big Hollywood studio themepark. 20th Century Fox have got lots of great stuffs like Star Wars and Avatar etc.... ;)

HSR can't climb at such gradient.....
Stop near highway next to a new cable car. :colgate:

At Universal too, the tour should start with cable car from HSR station at Harbourfront.

I hope you are joking......GohTong Jaya is still too high for any HSR.

Even if they extend a cable car down to Genting Sempah (McDonald's after the Karak Highway Tunnel), it is still too steep for HSR.

i think Fox is better... give us more choice... Kalau nak Universal just drive to singapore.. nak fox naik genting.. Kalau sama je pilihan kita tak banyak... comfirm akan ada ride yang sama antara malaysia n singapore kalau ada dua universal studio here

Not mistaken, Singapore has sign exclusivity agreement to south east Asia. So there's won't be any other US here.

Disney to Build 'Avatar' Attraction in Theme Parks

i think there will be no Avatar for our Fox Studio

The Walt Disney Co. said Tuesday that it has agreed on an exclusive deal to build attractions based on James Cameron's "Avatar" at its theme parks, starting with Animal Kingdom in Orlando, Fla.
The first "Avatar" land, which begins construction in 2013 and is expected to open about three years later, is to be an immersive experience in a land spanning several acres.
It will cost around $400 million. Tom Staggs, Disney's chairman of parks and resorts, said the land would be similar in scope to Cars Land, a 12-acre area based on the town of Radiator Springs in Disney/Pixar's "Cars" movies.
