Found this very very large office Skyscraper planned for Darwin,

Only details I got is its designed by Bell Gabbert Associates, Not sure if this has surfaced before?

Maybe someone could get in contact with them?

^ looks like something they dummied up using datacad and datacad are just using it as an example of creative work by their clients. it may not have actually gone anywhere, but interesting none the less.

Yeh I don't understand why Darwin would need an office building anywhere near this big. I hope it doesn't go ahead, because it doesn't suit the design for Darwin at all and would stick out like a sore thumb. Darwin would need a lot more midrise office buildings before springing up a high rise like this IMO, otherwise it would look out of place.

The office building market in Darwin is driven mostly by the NT Government. The have/will have a tender out for 10,000sqm. Office building happen about once each 3-4 years and they don't need to be tall: 10,000sqm is about 10 storeys using the Property Council preferred 1,000sqm floorplate.

Residential is more common but I hope that the central part of the Darwin CBD isn't built-out with residential. The central part needs to be the commercial/retail centre; ideally more low profile (height). Residential should stick to the outside fringes of the CBD; which is where the views are anyway. They should max-out on height.

Did'nt they recently introduce a height limit of RL120m in Darwin?
yes, Evolution has reached that height being built @ RL21m @ grd, thus 99m high.
there could be a skyscraper allowed higher above grd, being built down near shore @ RL5m, then you could achieve 115m high.
but maybe a special case in future will be allowed to surpass the Rl120m mark and we will see a landmark mixed use.

Cul, the Department of Defence ultimately controls building heights in Darwin. And their restriction is 90m above ground level irrespective of the RL. However, they might consider applications to breech this on an individual site basis: No one has succeeded in doing this so far.

Look at Schedule 13 and also have a read of the various sections; especially the scary bits about what Defence can do to a person in breech of the law.

I think the Woolies site should have a 40 storey mixed use centre. It would increase retail, residential, hotel and office space all in one. And lift the Mall out of obscurity.
