Planning application has been registered for the demolition of an existing building at 77 Wrentham Street in Southside, at the junction with Southacre Avenue, next to Madison House and the proposed New Monaco development, and the erection of a seven storey building containing 24 apartments (12 1beds, 11 2beds, 1 3bed).

The existing building is a part one storey/ part two storey building, probably constructed in the 1960s, which is currently a private Karaoke Lounge. There is no affordable housing proposed but there was pre-app discussions with the council.

The applicant is a Mr Lim Cho Tsang from London.

This looks iffy. Now the app has appeared and we have more info, I'm not impressed. Awful
^^ Yes. Anything within reason will be better than that. The renders of the new block look okay to me.
It would be an awful location to live in at present, but it would really be a vote of confidence in the city if it ends up having interest in it and is successfully sold/rented. Worse case scenario for the developer would be to probably to sell it on to a housing association still for a reasonable profit.

The proposals don’t look too bad considering the size of the site and they are about as good as an improvement you will get on a site like that in this location. As mentioned above there are going to be questions of the legitimacy and the seriousness of intent to see this through though.
Don't really know the area but this looks a great improvement.

Was that building a pub? Looks pretty awful.
I only went past it once back in 2013, but this was all I got of the pub / bar!

This flew through & got approved yesterday.

"The proposed development offers a high quality residential scheme close to the Southern Gateway Area of Transformation and represents a sustainable brownfield development.

"The proposal will have a satisfactory relationship to the surrounding context."

No idea tbh. This is one project I just haven't bothered looking into
I can't quite compete with the HS2 station app, lol, but walking down Wrentham St today I noticed the old estate pub/boots bar/karaoke bar has now been demolished (corner of Southacre Avenue) - DSM currently on-site.

There was an app for a small block of apartments here IIRC - Fingers crossed they move straight onto construction :)

This pub has been demolished to make way for a residential development. It’s on Wrentham Street.

Not bad. Definitely gets marks for effort. Didn't realise there was so much parkland at the bottom of Wrentham Street
