Ağdam (also, Agdam and Aghdam) was a town in the southwestern part of Azerbaijan and the capital of its Agdam Rayon. In July 1993, after heavy fighting, Agdam was captured by the forces of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic during its 1993 summer offensives. As the town fell its entire population fled eastwards. In the immediate aftermath of the fighting, the Armenian forces decided to destroy much of Agdam to prevent its recapture by Azerbaijan. More damage occurred in the following decades when the deserted town was looted for building materials. Agdam is currently a ruinous, uninhabited ghost town.

Many innocent people were killed by Armenian and Soviet forces during occupation of Khojaly city of Karabakh region of Azerbaijan Republic. By surrounding Khojaly these forces knew civilians are still in the city. And they did not allow them to escape from there. They killed all children, women and old people who wanted to run to survive from this horrible attack.

RIP to the victims of Khojaly Genocide.:eek:hno:

God bless them! Amin

Regardless of the differences in our versions of what went on in Khojaly, one fact cannot be changed, and that is that a lot of innocent people died that day. RIP and let such a tragedy never ever happen in the Caucuses again.

I do not know what is your version but that is fact they do not died they were killed. And it happened not because us because Dashnaks. May be you know there is good Caucasian tradition you can't come to neighbor’s house and say this house is mine. Do you know who is enemy of Armenians? Not Turks or Azeris. The Dashnaks are enemy of Armenian nation who made military dictatorship in Armenia. They have to leave from there themselves otherwise they will be thrown. They are threat to all Caucasian region.

Also we know what you mean by above comment "let such a tragedy never ever happen". I read somewhere before that with this Khojaly genocide Armenian dashnaks wanted to scare all Azerbaijan population. But they do not know by this act they showed how weak they are. We are not scared one do not forget we are Great Turkic Nation who born warrior and controlled 3 continents for many centuries. We are not fighting with civilians we destroy our enemy army wait you will see this great power again.

Agdam is one of the saddest pages of the modern Azerbaijani history. The city will be rebuilt as soon as the armed forces of Armenia will leave it. Hopefully soon!

The Dutch journalist Dirk-Jan Visser is preparing book based on FK Qarabagand Aghdam City in 2012 named "OFFSIDE". OFFSIDE will appear as book publication and exhibition in spring 2012. I found also nice pictures from his website. He is great guy and won recently "Silver Camera" for his pictures on Aghdam.

More information on OFFSIDE project can be found here

Here is photos from his upcoming book.

The commemoration mount marking the entry into the Agdam-district. The Azerbaijani territory and flag was made of thousands coloured pebble-stones. The lines demarcating the area of Azebaijan light up at night, while the Karabakh territory is shown flashing and carrying the pro-sign S.O.S.

Local Qarabag Agdam-fans celebrate their team's 2-1 victory over title favourite Khazar Lenkaran. As a result, FK Qarabag Agdam goes into the final match only one point deficit for the championship.

Deprived of any reliable maps during the Karabakh war, lieutenant Allahverdiyev who served under the command of Allahverdi Bagirov drew his own map of the towns under his responsibility on the back of a Stalin-figuring calendar.

Picture made by photographer Memmedguliyev (dated around 1992), who followed his three brothers along the frontline during the Karabakh war making photos of soldiers.

Valide Bagirova (1963) is the widow of Allahverdi Bagirov. Despite the fact that her husband while fighting for Agdam was officially declared as hero of Azerbaijan, she lives with her daughter Eynur and son-in-law Bekhtiar in a two room apartment in the 8th Mikrorayon of Baku.

Dord Yol (Fourways), a temporary settlement near the road from Barda to Guzanli, inhabited by refugees from Nagorno Karabakh. Once this road ended 30 km further in Agdam. The road is closed since Agdam became a military buffer zone under control of the Karabakhi Armenians in 1994.

Kenan Quliyev (8) is officially a refugee from Nagorno Karabakh, the unrecognized territory he has never seen or visited. The refugee settlement he is living nowadays in is only 30 km away from Nemirli, the place where he father Yasem was born.

Yasem Quliyev was born in the village of Nemirli in the Agdam-highland. He used to hold a respectable position as a physician in the Vinsavot Agdam wine-factory. Nowadays he lives like, approximately 200.000 other refugees in a self made house near the militarized border with Nagorno Karabakh, 30 km from Nemirli.
