Probably, but it's strange that Birkenhead isn't accounted to Liverpool whereas Aix-en-Provence is thought to form an urban area with Marseille.

Porto have more than 1.400.000 in urban area.. 1.800.000 in metro area... the list is wrong.
Maybe ;) but take into concideration that this list does have accurate propotions so that you get general idea of how other cities look in comparison with each other. I dare to say that Porto is more or less of the same size as e.i. Sofia, Belgrade or Helskinki ;)

^^ porto urban area is about 300km2, porto metropolitan area is exactly 1575km2

how's the size of sofia, belgrade or helsinki in urban and metro area?
I don't think anybody want to discuss those (at least for european cities) artificial "metro area" boundaries :D ;)
But as for Your question concerning area of urban areas you've got a very accurate and reliable source (page 48 for Porto) so find out by yourselve ;) http://www.demographia.com/db-worldua.pdf

i know, it says the same that in this list... the forumer who had created this thread based his information on this pdf ;)

and i've consulted portuguese data about porto urban area, and i've seen that is 1.310.000.. so the 1.400.000 that i've said was wrong... but the 1.035.000 of this list is also wrong... it is a 275.000 ppl of diference..

Very strange list, sorry...
- London is 12, resp 18 mio - depends on the definition
- Where is Zurich? - closer agglomeration 1.1mio, metro 1.8mio
- Berlin is more like 4.2mio, Moscow 13mio
- Rome 2.5 is only city proper (which is a huge municipality though)
- Same goes for Vienna - urban area 1.8mio
- Stuttgart metro is bigger than Hamburg - ca. 2.5 vs 2.3mio
- Where is Mannheim? 1.6mio metro!
- Köln-Bonn is more than 1.9mio. That's only the number for the first one - so it's more like 2.5mio
- If the upper, Marseilles-Aix or Essen-Düsseldorf, then also the official Leman metro (Genava-Lausanne) 1.1mio
etc...

It isn't strange because this is urban areas, NOT metropolitan areas.

Definition : "An urban area (urbanized area agglomeration or urban centre) is a continuously built up landmass of urban development."
