A long weekend in Melbourne

I spent the ANZAC Day long weekend down in Marvellous Melbourne. In between catching up with family and friends, shopping, eating, drinking and running out of battery, I took some pictures.

Nice one. In my three days in Melbourne I did:

Laneways (as above)
National Gallery of Victoria
Eureka Tower skydeck
Bars at Federation Square
Shopping at Melbourne Central
Eat at Chinatown

Any particular cafe in Degraves you like?

MILIUX, I suggest you try and catch Michaels camera in Melbourne. The best camera shop in the country, the top floor is a museum.
@MILIUX

Didn't actually get to eat at any! Was on a quick walking tour before meeting friends who took us to Southbank.

Made a dash out to South Yarra to eat at Two Birds One Stone on Saturday and had a coffee in the afternoon at Issus in Centre Place laneway.
@Miliux - Nice one - I was also there for 3 nights from Thurs and just got back this arvo.

I was amazed at the queues each day for H&M - always looped around the whole length of GPO - crazy!

Loved Emporium - great design and layout and enjoyed Muji. Also some great food in the mall - had excellent Vietnamese at Pho Nam.

Chapel St was really dead (Sat arvo) but city centre heaved.

Our best meal was at Pabu on Smith St, Collingwood.

Great pics Sky, I am happy to read that you enjoyed your visit
Like the big sized pictures...it's like you're sticking your head right into the view.

Took note of people's dining choices. Will definitely give Pabu a look in. I think you guys all missed out on what's been the rage in Melbourne for a while now...Rumi in Brunswick East
Wow, that street level activity is extremely impressive. Reminds me allot of London in that shot. Also that museum, not sure if I liked it, not a fan of that carpet?

^^I find Sydney and Melbourne can match London for street activity in their busiest streets.
How many floors does Uniqlo occupy? Looks like 3 from the photo, but that would be really huge.
^^
There's actually four floors, one below Lonsdale and three above street level.

The store is 2,180 sq m which is bigger than Zara Bourke and Pitt Street Malls (1,700 sq m) but smaller than the 5,000 sq m H&M megastore.

That was actually the queue to get into H&M!

Don't have a problem with carpet at NGV - it is a great purpose built art gallery that serves it's purpose very well. Overall it is more appealing than our AGNSW - IMO it suffers from a lack of vision and subsequent ad hoc additions that have lessened the appeal of the original building. Whether the planned $400 million expansion and upgrade can rectify this remains to be seen.

Offtopic - but I'd like to see AGNSW do something similar to the ROM in Ontario -- demolish all but the original building, and then construct a seamless extension on the rear that contrasts the original. Something like this could work well at AGNSW...

^^
I have the impression that the AGNSW board and their dominant visitor market are both quite conservative. As such, I'm not expecting anything quite that transformational unfortunately.
