A senior adviser to John McCain, the Republican presidential candidate, has apologised for saying a major terrorist attack in the US before November's election would benefit McCain.
Charlie Black, a political adviser to McCain, told Fortune magazine that such an attack "certainly would be a big advantage to him".
Black apologised in a statement on Monday after McCain said he disagreed with the remarks.
