I heard life in abu dhabi in the 80s was the best for expats because of High salaries, free housing, free cars, cheap grocery, Resturants etc.. Cheap every thing. You saved a lot of money back then.

^ Dubai was very different pre 1990, i think there were only one or two tall buildings, thats it. While Abu dhabi really boomed in the 70's and 80's

That's why I'm interested in Dubai. The sheer transformation of the city intrigues me.
But Abu Dhabi is nice too, of course.

^ there are very few pics of dubai from the 1970's and 80's on the web. I guess nothing interesting was going in Dubai at the time (building wise) i mean there were projects like Trade Center, Port Rashid, Jebel Ali that were built in the 70's, 80's but thats about it i think. Most of Dubai at the time was Deira and Bur dubai which today are considered really old, After 1995 Dubai Started Booming when SKyscrapers started to come up on Sheikh zayed road and along the creek.
