are they doing anything?

If I was appointed mayor of Addis Ababa for example, the first thing I would do, even BEFORE sorting out roads and paving and social housing, would be to build a sewage treatment plant. And waste centre. This kind of stuff doesnt even cost THAT much to build (its expensive, but compared to the benefits you get its cheap).

THEN i would work on roads and schools. its basic things like sewage and water that need sorting out first.

why havent they thought of this yet???? do they think their cities can just accumulate lots of shiny new buildings and roads and peoples shit will just dissapear? where do they think it all goes? do they think western and asian cities just somehow dont need sewage systems??:bash:

At least there is someone who can be counted on to keep the streets clean and roads/lights fixed. Though I have to agree, Mayors in Kenya appear like ceremonial heads of their respective areas.

She is not mayor anymore and when she was she was worthless to the majority of the people of Cape Town. Now she has gone on to the worthless position of provincial premier which has less authority than the executive mayor even though premiers are paid twice as much to put on a show.

Oh shut up already. You were harping on about Helen Zille's party being useless and that these elections would prove just that, then the DA ended up winning the Western Cape and increasing their number of national votes. As a direct result of the good job Helen Zille was doing as mayor (winning World Mayor 2008 to those who don't know), she is now able to take up the position of Premier of the Western Cape. She was a good steward of what she was given and has been given more to take responsibility for by the people.

If your only attack is that she is now apparently less powerful than the executive mayor, you really have become even more laughable a person. You've got nothing left to do but pick at straws. "The DA won't win." WRONG. "The DA are anti-poor." Proven WRONG. Now all you can do is whine about Helen being powerless when it's so blatantly obvious to everyone on the SA forum that you're just sulking over the fact that the pathetic ID and Patricia De Lille got almost a tenth of the number of votes they were hoping for.

Goodness knows what you're trying to achieve here, because honestly your ranting results in people laughing at you and not with you. If you don't like the Western Cape under DA rule, either get used to it or get OUT. That's democracy for you.

Mayor of Mogadishu = worst job in the world.

Most "mayors" in Somalia are unelected morons that steal whatever tiny money their cities have for themselves.
In Congo i don't even know we had Mayors, because all the money that states make go to the Central/Federal governement. even until now, the Central governementt still get 100% of the money that states generate. So i wonder what would the Mayor will be able to do.
