Highways are what I like most in France : it transforms the country into a zoo, "don't feed the animals !". Rouessé-Fontaine is just before the exit to Alençon, still in Sarthe (former County of Maine) as Alençon used to be a border-town for Normandy.

Reaching the suburb of Montsort and entering Normandy :

Going North towards Caen ! Valframbert :

Sées from the National Road :

The mighty A88 ! Unfinished ... it's time to drive on départementales ...

The last village of Orne before the Plain of Caen : Nécy

A brief glimpse at the impressive Plain of Caen (Catomagus) in Calvados :

Finally Caen !

Next : the beaches of the Normandy landings.

To be frank, the modern Orne département is not really what people associate with Normandy : in many ways, "Orne" (Alençon, Argentan, Sées, ...) is still part of the Western French mosaic. I'll soon post some pics of "archetypal" Normandy (modern départements of Manche and Calvados) : you'll get to see the difference.
