Alphabetic Tower
The Georgian alphabet is unique and is believed to date from around the 5th century. It underwent numerous changes before the modern version emerged. In 2012 a 135 metre tall tower with a twisting DNA helix shape was constructed, dedicated to the Georgian alphabet. There were plans for a restaurant and an observatory, but sadly it has closed and its future is uncertain.
Status: Built.
Scope of the work: Design, Construction Project and Construction Supervision.
Client: Batumi City Hall.
Description: This tower has been conceived to become an urban landmark that transmits the uniqueness of the Georgian people through their alphabet, which conveys the character of the nation and defines its identity.
The structure of the tower functions as a cantilever truss of 135m in height and 31m in diameter, embedded in its base to a foundation slab of 34m in diameter and 4m in height. At the top of the tower stands a single-layer glass sphere of 28m in diameter housing a revolving restaurant, several TV studios and an observatory with views to the city of Batumi, the Black Sea and the surrounding mountains.

construction started in 2010.
