'Amazing' Increase Of Foreign Investments In Iraqi Kurdistan; Kuwait On Top

The flow of foreign and Arab investments into Kurdistan in the last four years has dramatically changed its character, to the extent that the province can be easily distinguished from the rest of Iraq. What makes this province so different than the rest of Iraq is the stable security and the Kurdish investment law that provides incentives, tax holiday and safety to foreign capital, a law that is considered one of the most advanced in the Arab countries.

Haider Mustapha, the director general of the investment authority in the Kurdistan Regional Government estimates foreign investments in Kurdistan at about $14 billion. These investments cover housing, banking, health, industry, tourism, telecommunications, agriculture, and sports services. The housing sector attracted the lion's share of foreign investments in excess of $6 billion.

Kuwait leads foreign investors with $1.5 billion followed by Lebanon with $760 million, Turkey with $621 million and Egypt with $350 million.

Mustapha said that the province's future investment priorities will focus on petrochemical industries, manufacturing and assembling of automobiles, production of electric tools and factories for paper and glass.

I hope that really goes through, creating more jobs and less reliable on oil, and hopefully spreading to the rest of Iraq, though I'm very optimistic about basrah.

Well Iraq as a whole (i mean the Arab parts too) can go far without the oil, look at Lebanon for example, a country that does not bank on oil for income but rather tourism, agriculture etc i think we should follow suit, but like you said it all a matter of time.
i dont see it happen in the rest of iraq south and middle first they need to cleanize the bathies which is impossible .

Don't be so negative, of course its possible :)
Baathist in southern Iraq?..... :S

I'm not too optimistic about central Iraq, but I know the south will make it, its got way more potential then Kurdistan, how I wish the kurdish cities had a river like in Baghdad :(

As long as the rest of Iraq is dusty and hot, I think we can expect more Arab tourists in Kurdistan :D

my bad guys i meant in the middle of iraq i dont see any progress any soon . as long as those bathies are in power the kurds and shias wont wanna share there wealth and definitely wont wanna deal with them either as they never helped us but the opposite and still wanna stand again us if they get in power .
i dont think anyone wants to deal with them...thanks for your view, only time will tell, however baghdad is the capital and like it or not it will become developed + bustling with time.
Now now guys, we're on the road to rich-town!

as soon as Iraqi government is formed, and disputes are settled
