The HOC TSC is holding an enquiry into the impact of Coronavirus on transport. Yesterday - It invited the Mayors of Greater Manchester. Liverpool City Region and the West of England Combined Authority to give evidence, The most striking feature was the degree of consensus between the Mayors about the present unsatisfactory arrangements concerning the current financing of buses, the fact that Merseyrail and Metrolink have slipped under the Government radar with regards to financial support, and those measures that have been introduced as emergency measures that they would like to see retained. They also were consistent in pointing out the the TfL models of operation with regards to finance and control should be applied outside of London. If during lock down you have an hour and a half to spare you can see all of the proceedings here. Some interesting obiter dicta came up when the MP for High Peak asked about co-ordinating policies of cycling between Derbyshire County Council and Greater Manchester and the promotion of cycle links between the two. It turned out that Andy had been speaking about this to Dan Jarvis - the South Yorkshire Mayor and there was a joint aspiration to link Manchester and Sheffield by a cycle route. If you have a hour and a half to spare - there is a lot of food for thought in this session. To avoid creating a Japanese Knot Weed Thread - perhaps it might be better if you picked up your own particular interest in the relevant SSC thread (Cycles, buses, Metrolink, Rail etc.) Parliamentlive.tv
