we already knew of this project for some time, so here is its dedicated thread

West Beach Development, Palm Jumeirah

Nakheel’s new West Beach at Palm Jumeirah will stretch for 1.5 km along the Palm’s western trunk, providing another new destination for the Palm’s residents and visitors.

A shaded park and promenade, with retail kiosks and amenities such as children’s play areas, will run the entire length West Beach.
There will also be an exclusive high-end beach club facility featuring a low-rise, single-storey complex of 14 waterfront restaurants, outdoor seating deck, lounge, gym, swimming pool and party terrace.

West Beach will also have parking for around 340 cars and nine buses.

Unfortunately this will take up all the beach from the Fairmont, many people will be very disappointed I guess...

Palm West Development The Palm Dubai

Now the tenders are out on this project it looks pretty certain construction will start by Mid-2015

Does anyone have an idea of how property prices in the Fairmont Residences are being hit?

Pool view 2 bed apartments in Residences North and South still seem to list at AED4.3M, although South Residence seems to be less affected by the development from what I have seen on artist impressions

Does anyone know if this project is still going ahead?

It seems like tenders were sent out in late 2014, but haven't seen confirmation of the tenders being awarded or construction starting. It seems like there may have been a few changes to the palm as well as now they look to combine in with the palm promenade project. Any details would be appreciated.

Recent article in GulfNews has an update on the projects,i can't link yet, so here's copypaste:
gulfnews.com/xpress/news/changing-face-of-palm-jumeirah-1.1915533

Timeline mentions completion of Palm West Beach Promenade and the St. Regis to be expected in 2017.

Is that realistic since they didn't even start yet ? Also if anyone has insight as to when the actual construction work should begin ?
Any guess how long this should take to build given it is just a lowrise structure and pool etc ?

Palm Promenade
The entire Palm Jumeirah trunk is being transformed into a beach, park, retail and café complex. Stretching 1.5km, the aim is to create a pedestrian-friendly area that connects with the Palm West Beach. The project is expected to complete in 2017.

Palm West Beach
Coming up on the west side of the trunk, this beach park runs 1.5km and will feature a number of restaurants. The St. Regis Beach Club – with exclusive dining, leisure and fitness venues - is also part of the development. Anticipated completion is 2017.

Dubai developer fences off beach on Palm Jumeirah
Beaches on Palm Jumeirah are not public spaces, says master developer of biggest man-made island

Dubai: More than 600 residents in The Palm Jumeirah’s waterfront apartments have just lost direct access to the beach after real estate developer Nakheel closed off a portion of the trunk’s shoreline to pave way for a mega development.

Huh! I thought this shite was going to be between Fairmont and Oceana.

But it appears that Nakheel sold their 500 storey skyscraper in the middle to St. Regis Hotels and they gave them the beach in front of Fairmont!

Wow. Really wow.

Nakheel retains ownership of all the beaches on the palm.

The are building "The Palm Promenade" which will stretch the length of the western side of the trunk. I'm guessing they are starting in the middle where construction is happening before moving up and disrupting all the residents
