Arab countries have strict dress code on men or women?

I'm not surprised about mostly Arab countries have stricter dress code alike all women required to wear scraf over all hair and some reqiured wear black from head to ankle. Men is just wear limited clothes but knicker, chain, spike collar, punk style and cap is not allowed. I'm not sure about men though.

I thought Turkey, UAE, Irsael and Egypt has unlimited muslim and free dress code for people. Please list name of Arab that has stricter dress code.

Saudi Arabia :)

PS
I think this thread should go to the General Discussion sub-forum..
The levantine countries aren't strict, you can wear anything but the gulf countries are the strict ones when it comes to clothing, excluding the UAE.

Not in Saudi Arabia. You can in other Arab countries, but most probably your gonna have people looking at you like you were some freak.....In my opinion they have a point, people who dress like that have serious issues, thats just wierd

It is very new look to the Middle Eastern society with
the acceptation of occupied Palestine.

It is impossible to see Saudi woman wearing like this hehe.
What about Iran, Iraq, Yemen, Oman, Syria and Quatar?
In fact in all arabic countries there is strict dress codes and unstrict depends where you are!, Now in Iraq the Sunni areas have very and everday more strict dress codes, in Egypt depends from where you live in egypt, your family and many things like the S'eed for example Its in the middle of egypt one city is Minia, Despite half the population of minya is christian! they all wear burqas! because its a Tribal society. In Syria Damascus there is the old quarter where they dress strict too, Kuwait isnt strict AT ALL! neither is Jordan thought in tribal areas they are. some compounds in saudi arabia dont have strict dress codes some do. the country in accordance to the population that has the most liberty to dress what they want is #1 Lebanon #2 Jordan #Algeria, Despite having a huge population egypt is a very poor country, poverty is everywhere and usually its the upper class who dress modernly thought some middle-class people do also.
Wow. In North America, they don't have dress code as alike free countries but it execpt for school, nightlife, resturant and fast food that where basic dress code. Some school in America has strict dress code and some are uniform policies execpt in Mexico and Canada.
People should be free to wear what the hell they like, its the 21st century for gods sake!
True but what do you except from the Middle East? They are still stuck in 14th century socially.

Very stupid comment! the dress code doesnt involve technology! and by the way, there is an arabic Expression which translated in english means The women are the Bones of society, it means that If now saudi women teached their children that the dress code is bad! the children will grow up to disrespect the code and stop following it! but now in yemen all schools teach girls from the 3 grade until High-school about democracy, freedom, etc. Thought if you go in the streets of yemen and ask the women THEMSELVES! about the dress code, they will go against you. in the UAE , in the city of Al-Ain Women! see other women who dont cover all their face as whores. So its their choice to do so, thought in al-ain they can always escape to Dubai and dress the same way american woman do, but they have the tribal mentality. Its women who save Culture not men!
Same with Turkey that where people who nation from Iran, Iraq and even Saudia Arabia are escape for free dress code reason. They wear as like American girl too.
first of all its islamic countries not arabs. You should go to lebanon to check.

Second female arabs wear the latest fashion and the most expensive ones specially gulf arabs the only thing that they cover it with the abayah and veil.

None of the arab countries obligate restrict clothes except saudi arabia and iran which isnt an arab country.

UAE have laws to keep things in borders so if someone weard short clothes we can call the police.

Dreamer I disagree with u being in the 21st century doesnt allow us to be sinfull as the others.

You can wear whatever you want in Bahrain, but modesty is preferred. Once, this expat lady wore a shirt only to a shoppin mall, so it depends, no one will stop her.
Even though the UAE is open we can still use the law to stop them.
There is no such rule out there that limits what a women or man should wear or not in qatar and most other gulf countries. Its always best to use your best judgement. Its not smart for a western women to walk around a mall wearing something that is very provactive. She will attract negative attention to herself. Even men, wearing punk/gothic fashion will result in a whole lot of ppl giving you weird looks, maybe even commenting on it. But never will anyone arrest you for what your wearing or even stp you, unless offcourse you decide to go to the park in ur underwear.

Someone made the comment that its the 21st centurary and ppl should wear whatever they like. I disagree, regardless of what time we live in or where we live there should be limits on what is acceptable and what isnt. There are dress codes in work places, in schools, in universities, and even in malls. We should always practice good taste and good judgement.. it would be stupid to walk wearing a nazi uniform in any european mall just as it would be stupid for someone to walk in an arab mall while showing off thier pink thong strap !!

As for ltbk we said we are still stuck in the 14 centurary, i invite to visit one of our gulf countries. The only time you'll feel unwelcome socially is when you realize how behind you are when it comes to gulf ppl fashion and style... i can safely say that no other ppl in the world lives the big live like us.. even those who are less well off still have better taste than your well off westerner..

I agree with most of what u've said except that there is actually a rule but not a speciall rule for clothes. It is a general rule about sticking with the tradition and culture and aboout decency.
