Eureka now tallest in the country, pimp Dandaman photos good.

You can see the Water Tower about 400m from where I live in this pic (in other words, if you see Dan in the street taking pics, steal his camera as this show the quality - that water tower is 50k away):

For people thinking that the general public aren't noticing it, when I was down at Southbank on Monday, most people who were walking past and over the footbridge were all looking up at Eureka. They may not know exactly what it is but its certainly getting noticed now.

Just looking at that closeup of the floorplates, I wonder if they will start cleaning the glass on the wings as soon as each setback is completed. Would think once its all glassed in they can install the required equipment on the roof.

Nice shots Dan, can't wait for this baby to be finished off, as the best part (gold crown) is yet to come.

just a comparison list
TALLEST CONCRETE STRUCTURES IN AUSTRALIA -nov,2004

OVER 250M
MIM CHIMNEY,MT ISA-270M (274M-METAL FLUE) 1978
LOY YANG CHIMNEYS X 2 ,LATROBE VALLEY-260M 1986
EUREKA TOWER,MELB,257M UC
LOY YANG B STACK, LATROBE VALLEY,-255M 1988
RIALTO TOWER,MELB, 251M 1986
MT PIPER CHIMNEY,LITHGOW, 250M 1992

Eureka is soon to past many milestones. atm the reinforced concrete structure is no 4 in oz, and by end of year could equal the mighty MIM chiney which has held title for nearly 30 years.

MIM chimney, it's big, grey on the outside with red and white rings around the top (from memory) and belches out shit all day and night. Still curious???

Tayser, this water tower; has it been undergoing a transformation of it's top bit in the last few weeks???

Gee Eureka is getting big.

Wish they would fix the glazing mistake

 :banana2: :carrot: :pepper:

yes actually. if it stands in the middle of nowhere (mt isa ?!?) ... it must look quite surreal

nah, no red and white rings. thats its 1959 stack.

MIM chimney or Mount Isa Mines Smelter Stack is a marvelous piece of concrete engineering.
At time of construction it was tallest self supported structure in Southern hemisphere.erected in 14week continious pour.
The mining co designed the stack nearly 900ft because of safety concerns for locals and get the smoke emmissions right up there.

They were discussing Eureka on Nova the other morning. Hughsey was very excited about it and couldn't believe the other presenters didn't even know about it. They then had a phone in - most of the callers knew about it, some didn't. Hughsey seemed to know alot about it, I wonder if he's a member of the forum?

i know it shits us and we cannot believe it but as i have said before to most a building is just a building. i expect more people hate them than love them like us.
I guess they have other things on their minds...narrow though they must be.8)

I don't think people *hate* tall buildings (NIMBYs aside), they just don't give a damn about them, that's all.

Tell your average Joe that the worlds tallest apartment is being built at Southbank. They might be a little bit curious, perhaps ask you how many floors it's got, but after that they would just forget about it... it doesn't mean anything to them. They don't interact with it, they don't live in it, it is 'just a tall building', nothing more.

They have more important things to worry about - paying off the mortgage, planning their next holiday, raising kids, chatting up women (or guys, don't wanna be accused of being sexist by any females on these forums ;))... life in general. You get my drift...
